Meet Davyhon Canda

We recently connected with Davyhon Canda and have shared our conversation below.

Davyhon , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Im the oldest of 4, I seen my mom & pops always working hard! A lot of long nights and pushing thru even when they were tired and didn’t feel like it! All because of their “WHY” which was to protect & provide for there children. You see it subliminally as a kid and don’t really realize until your older that those moments help shape you into who & what you’ll become and what type of morals & values you’ll stand on in your life. Working hard is one of the values I picked up and one that I’m proud of.

Also musically my dad would make sure I practiced on drums very early on as a kid and I’m grateful at this time in my life as I’m older because that discipline to sit thru frustration, sadness, & doubt, while working out ideas or simply not having a good day is what helps you to get good & understand the know how, the ability to develop your own sense of who you are, and to express that in your interpretation of how you here music. It’s very important to develop your own voice and your own sound.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Davyhon Canada and I represent DUNGEONMUSIC. I’m a musician & producer. DUNGEONMUSIC is a music company & independent record label. We currently have 4 Projects out now “Back To The Basics”, “Something Outta Nothing”, “SummerTime With Friends 2”, “Dollar and a Dream” all available for purchase on iTunes and streaming on all DSP’s. Also available is merch at www.DUNGEONMUSIC.net where you can always stay updated with us.

Its been beautiful to see the growth from year to year personally and in the brand. To see all the years of sacrifice & going thru the process of getting it wrong then figuring it out. Thats what failing is for to push you to get better. If we were always right and never struggled we wouldn’t have no grit. no toughness about ourselves. We need failure to keep raising our game to higher heights.

Its an exciting time for DUNGEONMUSIC. I feel like the music that’s being put out is finding its way around organically and that’s important to me. I feel like myself & Kenai who’s another half of DUNGEONMUSIC are getting better as well and as long as we stay focused we’ll keep raising the bar for ourself.

Personally I’m very proud of myself for the work I’ve continuously put in and where its leading me. I always say “Stay Focused, Stay Motivated, Stay Determined.” and if I continue to do that I believe i’ll be just fine.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
3 qualities that I believe has helped and are still helping me are Being Focused, Strong work ethic, & staying disciplined. I believe each one of these are essential in helping you to achieve whatever it is you want.

Being Focused is crucial. That is what allows you to keep going after that vision you see for yourself. Thats what makes you say I know I don’t feel like working today but I’m going to show up anyway because I have a goal and vision I’m going after that I haven’t reached yet. which ties into number 2 work ethic.

Work Ethic is the one thing that we actually can control. We can control whether we don’t want to be lazy. We can control us getting up and putting in the time to figure it out and build brick by brick day by day. Don’t ever shy away from the work. The work never lies. Results happen because of the work that’s put in. You don’t just wake up one day and win the championship.

3rd is Staying Disciplined. Having the control to say I’m not going to watch tv I’m going to practice instead. Im not going to hangout today I’m going to go to the studio and work. Discipline and focus to me are similar and work very closely together because I feel the vision and goals you want to accomplish that you’re focused on should be all the more reason for you to have discipline to put the time in no matter how long it may take. And really, don’t worry about the time just work on getting better with your craft and find the excitement in learning about it & seeing your ideas come to life and falling in love with not only the music but the process of it all.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed or I feel I’m not liking what I’m creating musically I just take a step back. Close the session down and walk away from it. Go get new ears ,so I may listen to other music, talk on the phone, and come back to it later. Sometimes it works other times it doesn’t. May last a longer while than you thought. Also sometimes you just don’t feel inspired to make music so I won’t. Because in order to make good music and enjoy it and deliver at a certain standard you have to be into what you’re doing. Can’t cheat yourself or the music. So ill go 2-3 weeks or however long I need to without making any music until I get that urge that makes me say hmmm I miss making music then usually when that happens I come back straight out the gate with something I like lol.
