We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dawn Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dawn below.

Dawn , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My purpose is legit in my name. My first name is Cassandra which means helper of man kind and my middle name is Dawn which means first sign of light. I know God made no mistakes when creating me and as I grew in him I realized my purpose was to use the gifts and talents he gave to me to help others and be the light. Although the journey to live this purpose driven life wasn’t easy it has been worth it. Lots of prayer, sacrifice, making mistakes, starting over and never giving up.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
So in a nutshell I have curated a safe space for people to relax, receive prayer if and when needed, feel loved, seen and heard. My boutique is a one of a kind offering products made with love such as mango Shea butter, beard oil and balm for the fellas, body scrubs, one of a kind outfits that are comfortable and cute, accessories annnnndddd the boutique also has a hair salon where I take care of my clients hair care needs as well as facials and waxing. It’s legit a one stop shop for all the things I love.

Anything that allows me to create is what I love to do my mind is always creating something out of nothing and that is exciting. If it’s cutting off someone’s hair into a pixie (my favorite) or cutting up t shirts and bleaching them and adding my own touch to it I do it all and enjoy every moment.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities, skills, and area of knowledge that are the most imapactful on this journey is one no matter what keep God first no matter what. Entrepreneurship is all a faith walk it takes pure trust in God to get the business up and running and to keep it going. Hard work doesn’t always pay off but it will teach you something about yourself. Do your research in whatever it is you want to do but don’t t let what you find intimidate you. If you see someone doing the same thing you want to do go and talk to them ask them questions don’t be afraid to make a mistake and have to start over. I think this is more than three but most importantly do t be afraid to do it!

If you are early in your journey keep going, do t be afraid to try something new, trust your gut like legit get in tune with Jesus because he won’t fail you, the Homy Spirit is there to guide you every step of the way. I am only still going because of God and I know some people have questions about who he is but I would suggest just talking to him right where your mind is. Not that I am perfect or holier than thou but I am only alive because of him, my business is at a new location the fourth location in 4 years and it’s all God.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
So i have the pleasure of having a very supportive family. When things were financially looking crazy my family and some friends stepped in. That was a challenge the money I saved ran out quick faster than I planned. But I really believe that there will be no lack and some people out of no where came to my aid. When it wasn’t financial support my family came in and helped build out my new space, they worked together to make sure I had everything I needed down to the working the cash register and making sure there was toilet tissue in the bathroom, painting the walls and even putting up with me when my attitude wasn’t the greatest. Having a village is huge and I do realize that isn’t everyone s story unfortunately but I wouldn’t have made it through my opening if it wasn’t for my village.

When I have an idea about something I run it across them sometimes just to hear myself say it to get the thought out. They help me troubleshoot and practice my craft on them lol. New hair techniques, using a new product, or rolling out a new idea they are all my sample group. And they are absolutely honest with the feedback. So that in itself has helped with my success but also knows and believing with God all things are possible. I lack nothing.
