We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dayna Tames a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dayna, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I fostered this through continuous skill development, positive feedback from clients and colleagues, staying updated on industry trends, successfully overcoming challenges, networking with other professionals, and prioritizing self-care. By focusing on these aspects of my career and personal growth, I have been able to build a strong foundation of confidence and self-esteem.

I’m the Owner and Director of Education at Tameless Lash Artistry. I’m a licensed cosmetologist, multi-award-winning lash artist, educator, and internationally accredited eyelash extension championship judge. As of April 2024, I’ve won fourteen eyelash extension championships at national and international levels, was voted top eyelash extension artist in Phoenix the past three years, and have earned over ten lash extension certifications from around the world and am counting. I began teaching my craft to elevate the lash industry and believe that great lash artists should be the rule… not the exception. My company is also partnered with one of the USA’s largest lash brands to offer our students the highest standard of eyelash extension education available. I’m passionate about every aspect of lashing, from the fundamentals to advanced artistry and truly love this industry! I couldn’t be happier to share that love through my artwork and education.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ve come to appreciate all the foundational qualities that built my career. Creativity stands as the cornerstone, fueling innovation in lash design and application techniques. Alongside creativity, technical mastery has been paramount, honed through dedicated practice in perfecting the art of lash extensions.
Understanding the nuances of aesthetics and composition is essential for curating lash looks that enhance natural beauty and accentuate facial features. Effective communication skills are indispensable for building trust with clients, understanding their preferences, and delivering personalized lash enhancements that exceed expectations.
In a rapidly evolving industry, adaptability and versatility are key. Staying on top of the latest trends, techniques, and products ensures that I can offer clients the most current and sought-after lash services.
But as a licensed cosmetologist & lash artist— I’d say creativity, technical proficiency, and aesthetic understanding are the three most important qualities that drive my success. By embracing these attributes, I can continue to elevate the lash industry, inspire clients, and leave a lasting impact on the world of beauty— and lashes.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
They value quality, authenticity, and collaboration in their beauty journey. My top clients possess a genuine appreciation for the artistry of lash extensions and understand the importance of proper maintenance and aftercare.
They communicate and have a willingness to express their preferences and concerns openly. I value clients who trust in my expertise while also providing constructive feedback to ensure their satisfaction.
They prioritize their self-care routine and understand the commitment required for maintaining beautiful lashes.
These clients appreciate the value of investing in premium products and services, understanding that superior results come from using the highest quality materials and techniques.
Overall, they are someone who approaches their beauty journey with enthusiasm, respect, and a collaborative spirit, resulting in a positive and rewarding experience for both of us.
