Meet Deborah Liss

We were lucky to catch up with Deborah Liss recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Deborah , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I could say that my resilience comes from my life experiences, especially facing challenges like losing my mother in 2016. These tough times made me realize my inner strength. Pursuing my passion for storytelling and art keeps me going. The support of my family and friends is my anchor during hard times. Every setback is a chance to learn and grow, and that motivates me to keep moving forward.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actress and writer. I’m beyond excited to share that ‘The BabySeeker,’ my debut in the horror genre, is currently in the film festival circuit and has already earned several awards, including Best Horror Short Film, Best Art Design, Best Lead Actress, among others. It recently premiered at the prestigious Culver City Film Festival. My journey from Brazil to Hollywood is a significant part of my storytelling. That being said, my husband and I run a production company together named Nest Rooster Videos. We, along with our co-production companies RCview and WeCreate Productions, form a team of Brazilians aiming to bridge the gap between Brazil and Hollywood. We’re passionate about connecting our cultures through the art of storytelling.
Currently, we are also working on some more exciting projects, including transforming the Horror Short Film ‘The BabySeeker’ into a feature film. Additionally, another feature film, ‘Catharsis,’ is already in post-production. I’m also working on my first book, a thriller called “Diary of Madness”. I’m super excited for 2024!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I would say that the three things that mattered in my journey were:
Resilience: Not giving up, learning from life setbacks, and tough times.
Kindness: Being kind to myself.
Connections and Friendships: Building connections with people in the industry, developing true friendships with artists, and collaborating with one another.
For those just starting, stick with it, be yourself, be kind, and make friends in the business. Ask for advice from those who’ve been there, and every experience, good or bad, helps you grow.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents have always encouraged me to use my creativity since I was very little, and I’m sure that has greatly helped to sharpen my passion for art.
