Meet Denice Smith

We recently connected with Denice Smith and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Denice, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I believe my generosity is innate. It comes from a deeper place. And it’s something that is already in me. It’s an action that must be carried out. However we sometimes struggle when God moves on our heart to give. Not just monetary, but giving of our time, our talents and our knowledge. To be a help to others is sometimes a struggle because we have to make sacrifices that we may not be comfortable with. However, that generosity is a payment exacted for a special purpose. It’s to be an important factor in someone else’s life; not thinking of yourself in the moment. That generosity is going to be beneficial not only to the individual that is being helped, but to you prospering naturally and spiritually. So where does my generosity come from? It comes out of pure love. It’s done not out of compulsion of force, or of expectations of something in return, but because this is what the heart guides us to do. It comes from a sincere heart.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Over the years, I have accomplished a few things that I have set my heart to do, with having a 1 page spread in Essence magazine, 3page spread in The Source magazine , to being on BET‘s Rip The Runway to now recently appeared on Oprah Winfrey OWN network TV show “Ready To Love” produced by Will Packer. That was exciting and amazing at the same time ! Lol It was just a wonderful experience in all! I’m definitely open to more for sure! I’ve had to overcome a few obstacles to get to this point, but every moment was all worth it. I’ve grown in the process. Learned a few things and connected with some of the most amazing people.

As of now , I am currently the Vice President of BIFA here in Houston (Black Independent Filmmakers Association)! And we are having our first ever film festival in 2024 . It’s October 3rd through the 6th…

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The 3 most impactful areas in my life’s journey are healthy relationships, personal development and financial stability. These qualities not only shaped me as a person, but required patience and resilience in order to have a successful outcome. My advice to others who are still on their path to finding their purpose is to never lose sight of your purpose. Apply what you know to be your core values and beliefs to the whole process and take as much time as you need to get it right before moving on to the next phase. There’s only failure when you are not willing to try.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
The most important thing that I do when I’m overwhelmed, is I take a deep breath and give myself a moment. Sometimes we need that for ourselves to regroup…
