We recently connected with Denise Lyons and have shared our conversation below.
Denise, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I discovered my purpose amidst the backdrop of the pandemic, during a profound spiritual awakening that was accompanied by a series of divine revelations. These transformative experiences, often referred to as “downloads,” have illuminated my path and guided me towards a higher calling. The challenges and uncertainties of the pandemic served as the fertile ground for my personal growth and self-discovery. Through this journey, I have come to realize that my purpose is not merely an abstract concept, but a profound and meaningful mission that resonates with the very essence of my being. Embracing this calling has brought me a sense of fulfillment, purpose, and a deep connection to something greater than myself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I appreciate the opportunity to share more about myself, my brand, and what I am focused on professionally as a swimwear designer.
As a swimwear designer, I am dedicated to creating unique and sophisticated swimwear pieces that empower individuals to embrace their own style and express themselves confidently. What sets my brand apart is the personal touch and attention to detail that I infuse into each design. I believe that swimwear should be more than just a functional garment; it should be a reflection of one’s personality, allowing individuals to feel seen and celebrated.
What excites me the most about my work is the ability to bring joy and confidence to people’s lives through my swimwear designs. There is something truly special about seeing someone wear a piece that I have created and witnessing the transformative power it has on their confidence and self-expression. It is incredibly rewarding to know that my designs have the potential to make a positive impact on individuals
In terms of exciting developments, I am thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of my new swimwear collection in the coming months. This collection embodies my love for my favorite flower the Orchid flower, and individuality that my brand represents. I have poured my heart and soul into creating each piece, ensuring that they not only meet the highest standards of quality but also exceed the expectations of my customers. From flattering silhouettes to unique prints and textures, this collection offers something for everyone.
Additionally, I am also planning to host a swimwear showcase event where I will be unveiling the new collection. This event will provide an opportunity for individuals to experience the beauty and craftsmanship of my designs firsthand. I am excited to connect with fellow swimwear enthusiasts, industry professionals, and potential customers during this event.
Overall, I am dedicated to spreading the word about my brand and the unique swimwear pieces I create. I believe that everyone deserves swimwear that makes them feel confident, empowered, and celebrated. Through my designs, I hope to inspire individuals to embrace their own style and express themselves authentically.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three pivotal elements stand out as cornerstones of my growth and success: resilience, continuous learning, and effective communication.
1. **Resilience**
The path to success is rarely linear or smooth. It’s filled with setbacks, rejections, and failures. Resilience—the ability to recover from or adjust easily to adversity or change—has been crucial. It’s not just about bouncing back; it’s about learning from each fall, adapting strategies, and persisting with even more determination. For those early in their journey, I recommend developing resilience by setting small, achievable goals, celebrating those wins, and viewing setbacks as learning opportunities rather than failures. Building a support network of mentors, peers, and loved ones who can provide encouragement and perspective is also invaluable.
2. **Continuous Learning**
The willingness to continuously learn and adapt is indispensable in an ever-evolving world. This could mean staying updated with the latest trends in your field, acquiring new skills, or even learning from the people around you. For me, embracing a mindset of curiosity and openness to new experiences has propelled my growth. For newcomers, I suggest cultivating a habit of lifelong learning by reading widely, attending workshops, and seeking feedback. Remember, every person you meet and every experience you encounter is an opportunity to learn something new.
3. **Effective Communication**
The ability to clearly and persuasively express ideas, listen actively, and adapt your communication style to different audiences is fundamental. Whether it’s pitching an idea, networking, or collaborating with others, effective communication can open doors and foster meaningful connections. To enhance this skill, practice active listening, be concise yet specific in your communication, and seek opportunities to speak or present in public. Engaging in diverse communication settings will build your confidence and refine your ability to articulate ideas compellingly.
**Advice for Developing These Qualities**:
– **For Resilience**: Practice mindfulness and stress management techniques to maintain your emotional and mental well-being. Understand that failure is part of the growth process, not the end of it.
– **For Continuous Learning**
Set aside regular time for professional development. Use online resources, take courses, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to acquire new skills or knowledge.
– **For Effective Communication**
Engage in diverse forms of communication, from writing and speaking to listening and non-verbal cues. Seek feedback on your communication style and be willing to adjust and improve.
Embracing these qualities and continuously working on them can significantly impact your professional journey, making the path ahead both rewarding and enriching.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The person who has been most helpful in helping me overcome challenges and build essential skills, qualities, and knowledge is my sister Geelisa. She deserves all the credit and recognition for being my rock from the beginning. Geelisa has been there to support me every step of the way, and her own creative abilities have inspired me to push myself further. As a woman and a mother with many talents, she has shown me what it means to be resilient and determined. But above all, Geelisa is my best friend and confidant, and her unwavering belief in me has been instrumental in my success.
