Meet De’Shera Milan

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to De’Shera Milan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi De’Shera , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my parents, grandparents, and influential family members. My great-grandmother only had a grade-school education and worked in the South cleaning homes for the wealthy. My grandparents moved from the South to New York City for more opportunities and jobs. They worked numerous jobs to provide for their household. My mother taught me from childhood to always stay committed to whatever it is that I set my heart on. My father taught me how to persevere no matter what obstacles come my way. This type of work ethic was embedded in me to always give my all in everything I do!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

As I look back on my journey, I believe that the three most impactful qualities I learned on my journey were Resilience, Continuous Learning, and Self-Love.

By being resilient, I was able to bounce back from setbacks and persevere amidst any obstacle. My resilience allowed me to navigate obstacles with a positive mindset, learn from failures, and keep moving forward.

By continuously learning, I was able to embrace a growth mindset and expand my knowledge and skills. I believe that we always should be a student in life because that is how we truly grow and develop into who we are designed to be.

By embracing Self-Love, I learned the importance of self-reflection and self-care. I learned to understand myself, who I am, what I like and don’t like, and what brings me joy. I prioritize self care by engaging in activities that bring me peace and joy (i.e. traveling, spa days, sitting in nature, the beach, etc.) I also learned how to have healthy boundaries. Regular self-reflection helped me to clarify goals, identify my strengths and weaknesses, and make necessary adjustments. Being self-aware I fell more in love with the beautiful imperfections that make me unique.

My advice to those early in their journey is to nurture these qualities intentionally. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, never stop learning, and prioritize self-reflection and self-care. Remember, personal development is a continuous journey, so be patient, stay committed, and celebrate every milestone along the way.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
In the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth and improvement has been in my own personal development and self-mastery. I have overcome significant challenges, including depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, and I have dedicated myself to embracing self-love, self-compassion, and self-acceptance. This journey has allowed me to cultivate a deeper understanding of myself and develop a strong foundation of emotional well-being.

Additionally, I have focused on sharpening my coaching skills and abilities, accumulating over 500 hours of coaching experience and serving more than 40 clients. This practical experience has enabled me to refine my coaching techniques, deepen my understanding of human behavior, and enhance my ability to guide and empower my clients effectively.

Overall, the past 12 months have been transformative for me, both personally and professionally. I have experienced tremendous growth in overcoming personal challenges, developing resilience, and honing my coaching expertise. This growth has not only elevated my own well-being but also equipped me with the tools and insights to support and inspire others on their own transformative journeys.
