We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DeVaughn Hooper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi DeVaughn , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I found a lane that aligns with my natural attributes and talents and I stay committed to it. Confidence and self-esteem is directly chained to self identity. I dedicate time into getting to know thou self. Low self-esteem and low confidence often comes from a place of confusion; moreover, an identity crises. Not knowing who you are will subconsciously have you drifting from lane to lane, draining your energy, all while seeking validation, and acceptance in everything external rather than the true-self on the inside. I have an accurate depiction of who I am, who I want to be, and I stay true to that. I don’t participate in the game of personas. I don’t boost my life in the outdoors to be more successful than what it is behind close doors, and that results into me having an abundance of energy. Energy is the main feature to high levels of self-esteem. There are 365 days in a year, and out of all those days, I am never being anything other than myself.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I journeyed from the east coast to Los Angeles back in 2018 to further develop my talents in creative expression. My skill sets are in music production, story-telling, and film making. I’m currently in the artist development stage, which comes with much trail and error, while building a brand. It is plenty of work, but it is of joy and passion, and I do posses unique skills that put me at great odds for success.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Listening, patience, and allowing yourself to be fully present in the moment. and not vicariously living in a false reality contrary to your actual truth. These qualities make the journey more rich and fruitful especially in the downfalls and times of chaos. Being fully immerse in the present moment is where you truly find character and the structure needed to journey as far as you desire.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
How well I manage my time. I gained more of an in depth understanding of frequency, energy, vibration, and how to strategize maintaining positive energy to remain in a high frequency state of mind, while avoiding wasting time on low vibrational activities, behaviors, and people.
