We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Deweese White a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Deweese, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my family. I get my work ethic from my dad who showed me when he had gotten sick that he had a fever and still went to work. That’s how he inspired me to always work for what you want. Never settle. My dad knew how to hustle and put in the hard work, that’s where I get my drive from. My father is no longer with us, but he drives me to keep putting in the work.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My products are to dress the world in DWD gear. My clothes and products are for everyone no matter who you are, I got something for you. Small business is important and I’m here to work with my fellow business owners. My art helps me express myself. I design all the prints and use my skills to produce the perfect work. Everything is top quality from yours truly, Deweese White. I started this business because people doubted me and I refuse to settle. DWD is about hard work, dedication, quality and equality. One day I’ll expand my business to provide jobs for those in need and spread the peace and love.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Never give up. Tell the haters to step to the side. Tell people who don’t believe in you to step off. It’s all about believing in yourself. I don’t let people stand in the way in your dreams. I get up everyday and do my best. My business will stay strong as long as I believe in me. My three qualities that were impactful on my journey are staying strong, working hard and staying true to who I am.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I draw things to put on my clothes. I write down poetry to express myself. Take a deep breath and take a few minutes with yourself. Don’t feel like you have to take everything on at once. One step at a time. When I’m feeling overwhelmed I still come into work, but I need to talk about my feelings. Find someone safe to confide in and share your feelings.
