We were lucky to catch up with Dillan Kenyon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dillan, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Well, whenever I have beat block or writers block, I like to go out on walks, go on a drive, talk to my roommates, just really step away and clear my mind. If that doesn’t work, I don’t try to force it. I walk away for the rest of the day and come back when I have an idea.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I grew up in music city (Nashville, TN) so naturally I would get into music somehow. I started out in 2018 with Blink-182 covers on SoundCloud, until I found EDM. I’d stick with that genre for about a year until I started making rap in late 2019, this is where I really found my passion for music. Now I make beats with famous record label Internet Money, as well as started a few collectives here and there. In terms of new and upcoming projects, I will be releasing my second studio album “RAINBOW DRIVE” on Novemeber 17th, 2023 just in time for my 20th birthday. It will be 20 songs long, one for each year I have been born. The album was produced by me and good friends of mine such as Dynox, DREAMR, Brayd0n, and more.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Some of the most important knowledge I gained was when I became friends with Internet Money’s Dynox and Dreamr, they showed me the ropes of this rap industry and never gave up on me. Some advice I’d give is no matter how bad it might seem, don’t give up. Right around the time I met all my producer friends I was ready to quit music entirely. But then I met them and it changed my life. But that shouldn’t just apply to music. Never what anything you do. You never know what might be creeping around the corner.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Definitely have a lot of shout-outs for this one. First off, I have to give a massive shoutout to Dynox and Dreamr for showing me everything. I wouldn’t be where I’m at without them. I make sure to thank them every time I can for all they’ve done for me. Next shoutout I have to give is to Noah Mejia and DxnnyFxntom for working with me on my current album as well as Dynox and Dreamr. It was a big group effort. I also want to shout out my friend Brayd0n. He sits with me for like 6 hours a day sometimes helping me write, make my beats, and just chilling. There is a reason he is featured on my album 6 times. I’d also like to thank my mom and dad for always supporting my every move no matter what it is. Last shout out I want to give is to all my fans who constantly stream my music, and dm me on Instagram about how they love seeing what I’m doing and how I’m always improving. They make me keep going.
