Meet Director ZANE

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Director ZANE. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Director, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

In the ever-demanding world of creativity, finding constant inspiration can be challenging. But, from my own journey, I’ve discovered that the most brilliant ideas often come when we least anticipate them. When I was in school, and before the pressure of expectations weighed me down, there was a raw and authentic edge to my work. Recapturing that essence has always been my goal.

Yet, I’ve learned that inspiration cannot be requested at will. It tends to sneak up on me when I least expect it. So, when faced with a project that demands instant creativity, it can feel like a futile endeavor. However, over time, I’ve found a way to merge both: the spontaneous bursts of inspiration and the need for on-demand creativity.

The key lies in observing and understanding the triggers that ignite those inspirational moments. Was it the environment? A particular emotion? Perhaps a scent or a captivating melody? By methodically studying these conditions, I’ve identified patterns and unveiled my own personal recipe to get inspired.

Among the many sources of inspiration, there is one that resonates with me on a deeper level – piano music. Its notes simply transport my mind to a different mindset. Although other stimuli also ignite my imagination, if I had to choose one creative weapon, it would undoubtedly be the magical allure of piano music.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
With a decade of experience in media and communications, I have successfully created and delivered over 350 videos as a director, and contributed to over 500 videos as a creative director, producer, treatment developer, and editor. I collaborate with a wide range of clients including creative agencies, companies, brands, non-profits, online stores, and artists to produce videos that truly connect with their target audience. Every project is a chance for me to embark on a creative journey alongside my clients and team. My ultimate goal is to establish lasting relationships and deliver impactful and groundbreaking content.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When reflecting on my creative journey, there are three key elements that have had a profound impact.

1- Reading: As a visual person, the written word instantly transforms into vivid imagery in my mind. It’s as if stories and ideas leap off the page, becoming tangible before my eyes. Reading has not only sharpened my creative skills, but it also keeps me in a constant state of inspiration.

2- Music: It’s no secret that music has the power to transport us to different worlds and trigger forgotten memories. For me, music serves as a catalyst for creativity. Whenever I encounter a creative block, I turn to classical music. It allows me to effortlessly flow with the melodies, visualizing and crafting captivating stories in my mind.

3- College: While there may be debates surrounding the necessity of college for those pursuing creativity, I firmly believe in the value of higher education. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals, both classmates and professors, has been invaluable to my growth. The knowledge and structured learning I acquired during my college years have shaped me into a more disciplined and self-taught creative. Continual growth and the acquisition of knowledge are essential in the creative fields, and college has provided me with the skills to excel in these areas.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Feeling overwhelmed is something we all experience, especially when our livelihood and income depend on our work. As a creative, I’ve found that balancing the business side and creative side of things can be incredibly stressful. I know many other creatives can relate to this, as it’s a topic we often discuss. When it comes to dealing with overwhelming feelings, there are two effective approaches:
1. Taking a deep breath and stepping away from the stress can provide a fresh perspective when we come back to it. This break can help us approach things with a renewed mindset.
2. Completing the work not only brings a sense of accomplishment, but also lifts the weight of stress and overwhelm off our shoulders.
By utilizing these strategies, I’ve been albe to navigate the challenges of being overwhelmed and find a healthier balance in my creative endeavors.
