We recently connected with DJ ISizzle and have shared our conversation below.
DJ, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Well, it’s deeply rooted in the lessons my mom taught me from a young age. She instilled the importance of diligence and perseverance in everything I do. I remember a particular story from my childhood that always reminds me of the value of hard work.
When I was about 8 years old, my mom tasked me with planting a small garden in our backyard. Excitedly, I started digging and planting seeds, but as time passed, nothing seemed to sprout. I felt disheartened and wanted to give up. Instead of letting me quit, my mom gently encouraged me to keep watering and caring for the garden, emphasizing that good things take time.
Weeks passed, and one morning, I woke up to find tiny green shoots emerging from the soil. The feeling of accomplishment and joy was indescribable. That experience taught me the essence of patience, dedication, and the belief that hard work eventually pays off.
From that moment on, whether it’s tending to a garden or tackling challenging projects, I carry that lesson with me. My mom’s teachings about having a great work ethic continue to inspire me to strive for excellence in everything I do.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
It’s that magical moment when the music takes over, and the crowd becomes one pulsating entity, lost in the rhythm. That connection, that energy exchange between me and the audience, is what I live for. It’s not just about playing music; it’s about creating unforgettable experiences that people carry with them long after the lights dim.
Exciting news—I’ve teamed up with the talented Grace Parker to bring you two groundbreaking love songs. “Sleepless In Seattle” and “Alone” delve deep into love’s intricacies, resonating with raw emotion and authenticity. With Grace’s vocals and my beats, we’ve crafted something truly special.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that shaped my journey were resilience, creativity, and adaptability. Resilience, akin to Britney Spears’ “Stronger,” helped me bounce back from setbacks stronger than before. Creativity, like Madonna’s “Vogue,” allowed me to think outside the box and innovate in my endeavors. Adaptability, mirroring Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable,” taught me to embrace change and thrive in diverse environments.
For those starting their journey, my advice is to cultivate resilience by learning from failures, finding inspiration in creativity, and being open to change. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, explore new ideas fearlessly, and adapt to evolving circumstances with grace. Remember, like the iconic artists of the 90s and 2000s, your journey is a masterpiece in the making—embrace it wholeheartedly.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
At 13, after basketball, I returned home to a life-altering surprise: my first speakers, mixer, mic, laptop, and lighting, all set up in my bedroom. The gesture, beyond words, showcased my parents’ keen observation of my musical passion. Their belief in my DJ dreams sparked a fire within. Their support wasn’t just about gear; it was about faith in my potential. Their unwavering encouragement sculpted my journey, teaching me to believe in myself. Grateful for their love, I’m reminded daily of the power of support and nurturing one’s passions.
