Meet Domo Jones

We were lucky to catch up with Domo Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Domo, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
As a child living with a disability, you often automatically get looked at and/or deemed as difficult because your flaw is on display. With that in mind, I knew I still had value despite my limitation, so why not give them a reason to look! My style is my style regardless of my limitations. People are going to talk regardless, so I got out of the mindset trying to please and just be comfortable with who God created

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Being diagnosed with a brain tumor at nine to going through 187 chemotherapy treatments, I realized my story wasn’t just meant for me, there’s people that need to hear my journey. I self published my first autobiography called “#DamagedButNotDead” taking you through the journey of my life and sincd then, I’ve published three more books and co-authored two. After having to use a walker at age 22, that developed a a business called “WalkingByDesign” which customizes medical accessories and during the Pandemic, being stuck in the house ignited a love interest for podcasting, so iI started a podcast called “Don’t let the disability fool you” interviewing the disabled community and essential caregivers. During my journey, I realized I can help people with how to change their mindset dealing with the struggles of life, so I became a Master Certified Disability Confidence Coach but I personally go by DisabiliT ConfidenC Cōch. If that’s not enough, August of 2021 I wanted to take my podcast to another level, so I started my live talk show called “1 Billion Brave” representing the One Billion people in the world with disabilities giving them a space to share their stories of how they break the stigma beyond their conditions. I just recently had the opportunity to publish my first Children’s Disability Coloring Book called “Don’t Let The Disability Fool You” and all complete and publish my fourth book called “Early One Sunday Morning.”
I’m a business owner with a disability, a Master Life Coach with muscle weakness, a podcast host that breaks the stigma and an author with a bold personality…I contradict every rule out there!! So my question is, what’s stopping you?! #DontLetTheDisabilityFoolYou

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Consistency, doing what you have a passion in and always try to have a goal in mind. The best advice I’d give someone early on is to perfect what you love. Be like a sponge and learn about what you want to get into. Don’t just do it because it’s fun. Fun doesn’t last when the hype is over. Really enjoy what you do because when you’re tapped out, the passion for why you started will kick in.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I’d definitely say I’d spend it doing all I can promoting Jesus! We live in a world where so many people are dealing with so much and trying to find some type of peace of mind, but nothing gives you more peace when you’re dealing with life’s challenges more than Jesus. Not saying that life won’t have its problems, but with God, you know how to find the peace through it. The dope thing is because I already have a platform to speak, people gone have to listen!
