Meet Dontrell “ArTrell “ Jackson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dontrell “ArTrell “ Jackson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dontrell “ArTrell “, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Well in the words of the Great Andre 3000 “ If I’m not creating then I don’t feel good “ and this is a statement I truly believe in for myself so if I’m not painting when I really want to then what I am doing, I feel I’ll be wasting time

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
If you want informal then you definitely need to see my art because it’s rare it’s different than most paintings but it’s beautiful. I use techniques that normally are not used in painting because it’s hard but that doesn’t scare me , I love the challenge and I push myself to be better in every new painting. I also try to make as much content as possible, I always find that time to paint around my work schedule and life schedule but I’m always going to create. The ArTrell Experience is something that is new and is basically a tour around California and hopefully next the country that displays all my paintings in hand and prints of some most famous paintings make sure you stay on the lookout for the dates of those experience Art shows it may be near you, July and August are the next two.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being an informal artist I still feel going to cool and studying the formal arts for a while still impacted my Art journey a lot because I learned that I was a informal artist I learned that this wasn’t for me but still took notes and studied the arts and different ways people created but in a formal way. Another impactful thing would be taking two years off of work to really paint and get my painting style down and progress it, seriously took on the “ Starving Artist “ role but I feel you have to do that to see if you really want this or is it just a playful hobby

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Patience and Knowledge. I feel I’ve grown so much those two areas in particular knowing that God has my back truly and everything is taking place you just have to be patient and move with God and as far as knowledge,; I’ve never studied or researched so much before until I became an artist, as an artist my research and studying on topics, subjects or styles or even history or events etc has grown so much just making sure I have that knowledge to paint something is important to me and I feel important to the art
