Meet Doris Garcia

We recently connected with Doris Garcia and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Doris , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic? Well, it’s a blend of familia, hustle, and amor. Growing up, I had to take care of my siblings while my parents worked hard to make ends meet. That responsibility taught me the value of hard work and determination from a young age. As I got older, I jumped into the workforce early to pitch in and support my family. Now, with the backing of my incredible husband and two sons, I’ve turned my passion for baking into a thriving home-based business. Every cake I bake is infused with the spirit of my upbringing and the unwavering support of my loved ones. It’s not just about baking cakes; it’s about pouring my heart and soul into every creation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Alright, buckle up because I’m about to give you a taste of what we’re all about! Here at Wicked Cakes, I’m not just baking cakes; I’m crafting edible masterpieces that tell a story with every bite. As a Latina-owned home baking business, I infuse every creation with the warmth and amor of my heritage, bringing flavors that dance on your taste buds and leave you craving more.

What sets me apart? It’s our commitment to quality, creativity, and customer satisfaction. Whether it’s a whimsical birthday cake, an elegant wedding masterpiece, or a batch of decadent cupcakes, I pour my heart and soul into every order.

I’m always on the look out for inspiration and consistently experimenting with new flavors. Be on the lookout for my new desserts that’ll have you drooling before you even take a bite. Keep an eye out for pop-up events where you can indulge in my latest creations and maybe even catch a glimpse of the magic happening behind the scenes.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, three qualities that truly made a difference were resilience, creativity, and community building. Resilience helped me push through tough times and setbacks, creativity allowed me to stand out and offer something unique, and building a strong community of supporters pushed my business forward. For those just starting out, my advice is this: Embrace challenges as opportunities to grow stronger. Get creative with your offerings and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. And most importantly, foster genuine connections with your customers and fellow entrepreneurs. Whether it’s through social media, local events, or word-of-mouth, building a supportive community will be invaluable on your journey. Every setback is a chance to learn, every idea is worth exploring, and every connection you make is an opportunity waiting to happen. So keep baking, keep hustling, and keep believing in yourself!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one challenge I’m currently facing is managing the influx of orders without burning out. It’s a sweet problem to have, but it can definitely be overwhelming at times!

To tackle this challenge head-on, I’ve been implementing a few strategies. First off, I’ve set clear boundaries and realistic expectations with my customers regarding order lead times and availability. This helps manage their expectations and gives me some breathing room.

But perhaps the most important strategy of all is making sure to prioritize self-care and downtime. Whether it’s taking a walk for fresh air, watching a guilty pleasure TV show, or simply spending quality time with my loved ones, carving out moments of relaxation is essential for preventing burnout.

Sure, it’s a balancing act, but with a pinch of determination and a dash of self-care, I’m confident I can keep the orders flowing while keeping my sanity intact!
