Meet Dr. Leah Square

We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Leah Square recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Leah , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My confidence was developed at a very early age. My parents truly were patrons of the arts and made sure I had exposure to visual art, dance and singing. I absolutely loved to paint and draw, which ultimately laid the foundation for my career in beauty. By continuously learning and mastering my craft, I gained expertise that further bolstered my confidence. Additionally, positive feedback from clients and and colleagues in the industry affirmed my abilities and contributed to my sense of self-worth. Taking risks, pushing boundaries and embracing my unique style also played a significant role in building my confidence as a beauty guru.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a beauty entrepreneur and the creative force behind Faces by Leah Microblading + Makeup in Baton Rouge, LA.

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, roughly an hour outside of New Orleans, my journey into entrepreneurship began in 2021, after being laid off from an executive level position in one of the world’s leading beauty companies.

I wasted no time putting pen to paper, writing a business plan that would be the blueprint for Faces by Leah Microblading + Makeup – a luxury beauty studio specializing in permanent makeup, special occasion makeup and makeup lessons.

Armed with years of executive level business experience, permanent makeup certifications from Melba Beauty and Beso Makeup, and bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Louisiana State University, I was able to combine creativity with business savvy to thrive in my new venture.

Beyond business, my heart beats for philanthropy. In addition to being involved in several charitable organizations, I cherish directing my own personal philanthropic projects centered around providing cancer survivors with life-changing permanent makeup services free of charge.

With an eye for beauty trends and a heart for helping others, I hope to inspire colleagues, clients and beauty aficionados alike. Beauty is not only skin deep but rooted in compassion, determination and giving back.

What’s next for me? I will be releasing an e-book to help aspiring beauty entrepreneurs start their own business. And for a limited time, I will be offering 20% off Virtual Makeup Lessons (offer expires 7/30/24). Visit facesbyleah.com to reserve your class.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Drive, determination and not being afraid to fail. My best advice is: “Growth happens outside of your comfort zone.” If you’re early in your career, don’t compare yourself, your talent or your success to others. Keep working on your craft and don’t be afraid to take risks. Big risks = big rewards.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I am so obsessed with the book “Atomic Habits.” It provides practical strategies for making small changes that lead to big results. Author James Clear offers actionable advice that can be applied to any aspect of life. I have personally put into practice the strategies from the book to get organized in my life as well as my business while eliminating distractions that take attention away from my goals. This is a must read for everyone!
