We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Nancy GAINES-DILLARD a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Nancy, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there are so many folks who can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Purpose found me. I realized it was always a part of who i was and that i needed to cultivate and nurture it, and in many cases, i still do till this day. As i matured in life, I showed up for myself and was intentionally, unapologetically me. The rest fell into place.
Purpose was always there. The competition was within myself, not others. I learned not only to forgive others but also to forgive myself. Stepping outside my comfort zone was the one thing that changed my life forever. Once you get a taste of success, and I mean even the smallest of wins, you realize you have the courage, the strength, that you are enough and you have what it takes to persevere and achieve anything you set your hearts desire on. Being your own cheerleader, your ride or die, your biggest fan is an absolute must! In fact your vision may seem delusional to some, but you are the only one with the dream/vision that is capable of making it a reality. Others don’t see it the way you do and that may seem discouraging, but you mustn’t give up on what you are purposed to do/become. It always seems impossible until it becomes possible.
I started my entrepreneurial journey many years after my professional career began. Although I was very good at what I did in medicine and felt very comfortable and valued, There was so much more in store for me as I discovered along my entrepreneurial journey.
Stepping away from corporate America and into owning my own business(s), yes, I said business(s), was that very thing (stepping outside my comfort zone)that changed my life forever. You see, you are not born with all the gifts/talents you’ll ever have in life. I discovered new gifts/talents along the way and through my journey, realized I have only just begun to walk into my purpose. Serving others is the ultimate, but little did I know of on just how large of a scale this would end up for me.
Sometimes the walk, the path on your journey is lonely, the least path taken, but you must use this time to grow and develop.
I’m pleased to say that because of my purpose to serve others, my obedience to the will of GOD, I am able to have a broader reach to help many in the world locally, nationally and internationally.
My Advise: Live full and die empty! The sky’s the limit. Do not set limits on what you can be(come).
Who knows, you just may find out that you have many talents/gifts that you are absolutely great at. Remember two things, 1) gifts are meant to be given away and too much is given, much is required!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Believe in your self…Everything is a mindset. Change the way you view yourself, situations around you and the people you interact with. Access is an essential component to your mental wellbeing. Every encounter with someone good, bad or indifferent is an energy exchange. Learning to foster a being of keener discernment is crucial to mental stability. If you can think it, you can become it. meditate on your success and what you view success is to you. The mind knows no different whether you physically or mentally experience something.
2) Never give up….Always bet on yourself. You are the one thing you can count on at the end of the day. Think it. Believe it. Become it. It is up to you. You have the choice to decide.
3)Drown out the distractions…There will always be noise. Decide what you listen to, who you listen to. What are you feeding your soul? What content are you reading? How are you showing up? Skill up or you will get left behind.
