We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Stacy Friedman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Stacy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I think that finding your purpose for what you do in life and career is the recipe for success and happiness. It is what keeps you going every day when you love what you do and when it comes from a “why”. When I was younger, I was very open minded about sex and really enjoyed the subject so it allowed people to feel comfortable speaking with me about it all and they never felt judged so I knew I would want to do something in the future in this field. As I got older after having my first child, I had a very traumatic delivery, When I was trying to get back to myself and sex life post baby, I had horrible pain with sex where I could not have any penetration. It lasted almost 5-6 years going from doctor to doctor trying to find out how to get the help that I needed. My relationship suffered as a result because I felt less of a wife, a lover and a woman because I was unable to have sex (intercourse). I did wind up having a successful surgery but I had nobody to talk to in order to get past the trauma of what it did to myself and my marriage. I looked for support but it was very limited. I did find only one sexologist to help so decided to check it out. It made a very big difference in my relationship and I was very thankful that there was someone who I could talk with about sex and intimate issues. It was at that point that I realized the need for more support in this field and to be able to reach more people so I looked into finding a way to help others. So here I am!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I got into the field of Clinical Sexology because of my passion for helping people better connect and experience the best sexual intimacy with themselves or with their partner(s).
I hold a Doctorate degree in Human Sexuality in addition to a Masters in Clinical Sexology and am a Certified Sex Coach. I am a member of WASC (World Association of Sex Coaching), including ACS (The American College of Sexologists). I also have a BA in Psychology and I was a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Vascular Sonographer for 24 years. This experience allows me to have a vast medical background and be knowledgeable about medical conditions and disease processes that can affect how the body functions physically, emotionally and sexually.
I have also had the experience of reaching many men and women to educate them in a fun, positive approach to love, romance and all aspects of sexuality through my workshops and expertise with regard to adult toys and novelties since 2006. My education, my own sexual journey and life experience enable me to help you move forward in a positive direction to face the challenges that may lie ahead and to achieve your goals.
Coaching is designed to help women, men, of any sexual orientation or gender, address their concerns about sexuality, sexual function, and sexual expression. It is a much needed growing field and one that can be beneficial for anyone wanting to improve their connections.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having an open mind and an open heart to help others without judgment is one of the most important qualities that you can have in this field. Having a medical background really helped me, so I can understand more of how the body works, disease processes and just understanding how it is all connected. Taking advantage of my personal journey in sexuality has also helped me understand and connect to my clients in a way I am told that I am relatable.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
When you have and are trying to grow your own business, there are always challenges. I would say that my biggest challenge is to know what to do next and how to get the help that I need to move forward. I am great at helping others and making an impact in their lives but when it comes to finding the right support for myself, it is sometimes difficult to know exactly what I need to make my business run easier and what would be the most helpful. I have so many ideas and things that I want to do to help others such as a podcast, online courses, group coaching and many more things, it is just a matter of figuring out what people need and want the most of and finding a way to get it started!
