Meet Dr. Torian Salary

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Torian Salary. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dr. Torian, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence and self-esteem come from knowing who I am and whose I am. “Who I am,” speaks of my purpose in life… what I’m called to do and be.
“Whose I am,” speaks to my relationship with God.
Once I realized what I was called to do in this life and who was behind me every step of the way, the game changed. God has never let me down. Every setback that I had was a setup for a comeback, and I recognize it was God the whole time. When people let me down, God was there. When circumstances changed, God remained the same.
God was, is, and will always be the constant driving force behind everything I do. Therefore, that is where I get my confidence and self-esteem from… knowing that with God, I simply cannot fail.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am currently the Minister of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Decatur, Georgia. I’m entering my 3rd year as the full-time Minister. Additionally, I teach at Georgia State University as a Professor of Business Communications & Professional Development. I released a book earlier this year that outlines sermons, stories, and strategies for navigating life’s difficulties. I support my wife’s business called Radiant Faith Home Care, where as an RN, she provides care to clients in Walton, Gwinnett, Dekalb, Fulton, and Cobb counties. However, one of my favorite hats to wear is being Daddy to my 4 wonderful children. They keep me young, and I like that!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Keep God first. Period. Nothing else needs to be said 2. Study, study, study! Read, plan, write, learn, whatever you need to do to get one percent better each day
3. Take time off. I know this is foreign to many people because we’ve been taught to work all day and all night. However, you have to be able to take time off for yourself and your mental health

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents have done for me is support me. I recall telling my mom at least 25 things I wanted to do/be when I grew up. Not once did my mom ever discourage me, tell me to think realistically, or tell me it won’t happen. She always told me I can do whatever I want to do. She let me dream without limits.
