Meet Drew Johnson Nwabueze

We recently connected with Drew Johnson Nwabueze and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Drew, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
The cliché notion of “I did not find my purpose; my purpose found me” resonates deeply with me, particularly as I reflect on my journey. It all began with my humble venture into creating self-care products, an endeavor that has unexpectedly flourished into engaging in meaningful humanitarian work and embarking on a Ph.D. program in transpersonal integral psychology, which directly aligns with my commitment to humanitarian efforts. Looking back, there was no way for me to anticipate that this extraordinary path was meant for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Presently, my journey has blossomed into an extraordinary phase of life. I am thrilled to share that my business, House of Yodi, is now offering certified wellness services and classes, both through paid options and donation-based offerings. Additionally, I host an inspiring podcast titled “Healing, and Other Things,” where we delve into discussions on various aspects of healing and current events.

A significant milestone reached in February 2023 was the establishment of the nonprofit arm of House of Yodi called “Healing Mothers Foundation.” Within this foundation, we have a dedicated team committed to providing the community with free wellness events, services, demonstrations, resources, and invaluable community support.

Incredibly, my educational journey has also taken an exciting turn as I have embarked on a Ph.D. program in transpersonal integral psychology. This pursuit allows me to complement my community work with scholarly research, enabling me to contribute even more profoundly to the betterment of the community and beyond.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Throughout my journey, it is the synergy of faith, determination, and grace that has propelled me forward. The unwavering belief in being supported as I evolve and pursue my aspirations is driven by faith in a higher power, faith in my community, and faith in my own abilities and dreams. Determination fuels my resolve to overcome any obstacles, whether they stem from external challenges or self-imposed limitations. And embracing grace allows me to offer compassion to both others and myself, particularly as I venture into uncharted territories.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Mama Day by the late Gloria Naylor is a book that profoundly influenced me and brought about a life-changing impact. During my time in undergrad, when I was experiencing a significant transformation, I delved into the pages of this magical piece of literature. It sparked within me a newfound understanding of the potent power that courses through my ancestry. The book inspired me to explore the healing potential of traditional remedies, leading me to embrace their wisdom. I wholeheartedly endorse and encourage others to immerse themselves in this remarkable work of art.
