We were lucky to catch up with Dyan Edwards recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dyan , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Great Question! My optimism is rooted in my inner knowing that my life has purpose. Purpose for me is a driving factor, it’s what keeps me pushing forward even when the challenges that I face seem insurmountable. My purpose in life is to leave a legacy for my children. To make sure that they are equipped to dream big and see those dreams come to life.
I think, especially in our current state as a culture, that it’s very easy and even understandable to give into hopelessness. But, hopelessness halts progress. Hopelessness breeds stagnancy and complacency.
Optimism is the anecdote to hopelessness. Optimism is what helps me shift back in to motion. Optimism fuels change.
Every time I see a glimmer in my kids eyes, every single hug, the sound of their laughter; I’m reminded to stay optimistic!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am currently in the process of creating a life I adore. The past few years have been a rollercoaster due to divorce, cross country moves, and all the remnants of this crazy post Covid-19 world. I’ve returned to my hometown in Atlanta on a mission! I am a Realtor with a dream of helping families create generational wealth by truly understanding that Real Estate is a major path to creating a legacy.
I’ve also started a nonprofit organization called Thrive Mama. Thrivemama.org is fueled by the struggles I faced as a newly single mother facing the challenges of raising kids, working full time, and all the moving pieces that come with that. I realized in a new light just how much support is needed in order for a mother to be wholly supported, and there are so few resources to help with even basic necessities. Thrive Mama was born from with the understanding that there shouldn’t be hoops and politics involved in getting help and resources needed for single mother led families. When mama is thriving the whole family thrives!
The big picture for thrive mama is to see Single Mama’s have resources to educate themselves, provide stability and sustainability for themselves and their children. I would love to be able to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas sponsorship to a few local single mothers over the 2023 holiday season. You can learn more or donate at www.thrivemama.org.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’m an avid reader. I like big books and I cannot lie! The most impactful pieces of my journey come from my desire to always be learning. I’ve done deep dives on everything from empathy, to business, to self awareness, to becoming a millionaire. I’ve learned that it’s about synergy and existing in spaces that allow me to be present fully. Using these tools keeps me intentional about showing up wholeheartedly as a mom, a business woman, and a forever dreamer,
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to network and collaborate with like minded individuals who are committed to making change in the world around us. Be that other Realtors, non profit advisors, or investors. I know how powerful the proper network can be and I look forward to cultivating mutually beneficial relationships that will have a positive impact on our community.
