Meet E. Nigma

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to E. Nigma. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

E., so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
As an author, confidence didn’t always come easy for me, as when I first started writing, I was like George McFly from Back to the Future. I would write, but wouldn’t let anyone read them. I just wasn’t confident enough to let anyone read my work. I didn’t know if I’d ever get to that point where I would be confident enough to share my work with others.

After I worked up the courage to post my first novel on Amazon, I was stunned at the response. One reviewer of the book gave me so much pride in my work that I finally shared it with others I knew (including my family). Hearing someone connect with my book just was the boost to my confidence that I needed. My self-esteem grew because of it, and it’s a feeling that’s hard for me to describe even now.

The more I write, the more my confidence grows, but it was one reviewer who helped me see that I was better than I believed myself to be, and I’ll be forever grateful for them taking the time to read and review my work.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an author of 28 books (maybe 29, depending on when this review drops). The thing I like about being an author is that I can create worlds to share with others. Creativity is just a gift that is easy to share with others, and it’s one that I take very seriously. Unlike many authors, I don’t typically stay in one genre, which allows me to spread my creativity to all forms of stories. Currently, my latest book Danark: Eternal Fire, is set to drop this month. It is the third and possibly final book of my sci-fi series and one that I’m most proud of. I also have works that touch different genres like urban fiction, psychological thriller, murder mystery, comedy, coming of age, action, and much more. The reason I write under the pen name of E. Nigma is because you never know what you’re going to get from me, and I love the fact that I’m able to entertain others with my fascinating stories.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Confidence, discipline, and persistence are the three qualities I believe you should have to be a successful writer. Being an author isn’t an easy profession. In order to reach your goals, you need to make sure you build discipline and work ethic even when life is down. Write one sentence a day if you need to, but keep writing to build a habit. One sentence leads to a paragraph, paragraphs lead to pages, pages lead to chapters, and then start the process all over again until your story is complete. The first book is always the hardest, but once you have that book in your hand, it’s going to motivate you in ways that you won’t believe. You have to push through the hard times, however.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Write, no matter what, just keep writing. Life is going to come at you, and it’s going to make it tough to focus at times, but the number one goal for me is getting the story on paper. You are going to have to edit things in the future anyway, so get the story down on paper and complete the task. I disappear in my work all the time, and to be honest, when life gets rough, I find solace in my work as it can be the only thing that makes sense to me. Everyone has to find their motivation or happy place, but writing even when I’m overwhelmed works for me. I normally don’t write my best work during those times, but I am making progress, and that should be the goal daily.
