Meet Eduardo Aram

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eduardo Aram. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Eduardo, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Motivating myself to understand what I need to learn to be where I want to be—accepting my flaws and learning the skillset to move forward.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I moved from São Paulo to Los Angeles in 2015 to focus on my career here in the US. When I was younger, I studied law. After finishing university, I moved to the music industry, playing for many years as DJ and playing live sets with my band in big rock festivals in Brazil, then deep-dived into film music in 2012 continuing up until now.

The early days in LA alone were exciting because I learned a lot about myself and things I needed to improve to step into the competitive film industry here. It wasn’t easy at all. But I’ve been working a lot since then—the results you can watch on TV.

The most recent works I scored the music for are HBO “Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty,” Netflix “Camp Confidential: America’s Secrets Nazis,” Apple TV “The Mosquito Coast (season 1 and Season 2), Netflix “The Devil Next Door,” Netflix “Sanpa: Sins of The Savior,” Paramount + “Corpo Libero,” National Geographic “Blood On The Wall,” Netflix “El Chapo (3 seasons),” among many others.

On April 4th, you can watch my latest work, the music for the documentary “The Sun Queen,” on PBS.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Number one was taking care of health and mental health. LA can be a lonely place, and to achieve our goals, we must feel good.

The second thing was understanding why I couldn’t seem to get the opportunities I wanted. The answer was to create a skill set list and improve them individually. I’m talking about aspects like, for example, networking, technical skills, how you present yourself, and how to be patient with the timing of things in life.

Another critical aspect is to create what you are saying you do. The number of people that sell themselves, saying they are phenomenal, but when you ask them to show what they do, they have nothing to offer. So the advice is to be ready, with work to show, even if nothing is happening as expected. Because at some point, the opportunity will come, and you must be prepared to take action.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I can tell you a combination of books.

Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris has a compilation of interviews with successful people from the entertainment industry. Reading this will show you that they are similar to us. They had the same fears and similar obstacles they had to face it. Just understand that, and don’t compare yourself with anybody.

All You Need to Know About the Music Business by Donald S Passman. Great book if you want to understand the big picture of the music business and how it works.

Influence: Science and Practice by Robert Cialdini is a psychology book examining the key ways people can be influenced by “Compliance Professionals.” It is a great book that will help you be aware that humans have behavioral patterns.
