Meet Eileenys Hernandez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eileenys Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Eileenys, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
I’m all about making time to meditate, exercise regularly, and as my daughter would say, “mindful breathing.”

There’s this app I use called Synctuition. It’s amazing!  It’s an app that was created specifically for meditation.  I just grab my headphones (the good ones) and listen to what they call “sound journeys” for at least 10 minutes a day (minimum). When you put those headphones on and close your eyes, you hear 3D sound waves and frequencies that make you feel like you’ve been immersed in nature.  It helps to quiet the mind, improve focus, and promote positive effects on the brain. If you’ve got a lot going on (stress, worry, anxiety), your brain can work against you and not for you. Clearing your thoughts can help you process information better, overcome negative feelings, and get rid of those feelings of doubt . There are times when I get busy and I forget to meditate, but when I do, I can definitely feel it.

When I make time for self-care on a regular basis it makes a huge difference.  Also, meditating outside takes it to a whole other level. There are so many positive benefits associated with being outside in nature. The outdoors is a great space for meditation, and if I’m at the beach I’m a happy girl.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve worked in healthcare for quite some time now. Most of that time was spent working in physical therapy.  I’m currently working in the field of nursing.  Healthcare has had some high points and low points. Covid was definitely one of the low points for sure. But I think people are starting to rediscover and gain that sense of trust in the healthcare system (little by little). Now that we’ve managed to get past the more difficult parts, I’m excited to see how healthcare will expand.

I’m also the owner of Peacock Perch, a local business in Tampa, FL where we specialize in renting distinct and unique peacock chairs. For personal reasons, I had to temporarily shut down the doors and focus on other priorities. However, I’m happy to say that we’ll be back in business soon to help recreate those memorable moments.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Making mistakes and being humble, hard-work, and persistence. I think that’s how we’ve all learned at some point in our lives. We all make mistakes, make strides to become better, and make sustained efforts to improve.

Giving up is easy. Making the effort is hard.  When you make the effort to achieve something, it takes a lot of patience, practice, and you will be out of your comfort zone. But, it’s possible.

If I can talk to my younger self or anyone who needs advice, I’d tell them to start journaling.  I’m human and just like anyone, I’ve veered off track. What I’ve found with journaling though is that when you write your journey out on paper, you find the answers you’re looking for.

Journaling helps me to write my thoughts out on paper so that I can go back and reflect. When I reflect, I make better decisions based on those writings. There’ve been times when I’ve started journaling, and in that very moment I write out the resolution to my own problem instinctively.  It’s a powerful tool to actually do the inner work which leads to insight, breakthroughs, and the ability to process difficult emotions.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents are awesome! I’m first generation here in the US. My parents are from Cuba, and I was born in New Jersey. It’s been quite a journey for them to move here, and I’m sure they experienced culture shock when they arrived. The most impactful thing they did for me as parents is making the journey to the United States. It was a huge sacrifice. I can see that now as an adult. I’m grateful for what they did and why they did it. My family is not perfect by any means, and we can all learn from each other. But through my parents, I’ve learned how to be strong, patient, and resilient. When you see that growing up, you have no other option than to lead by example.
