Meet Elicia Hawkins

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elicia Hawkins . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Elicia, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout

Owning your own business is much harder than people realize. You can easily become overwhelmed, and stressed out if you don’t take time out for self. Here are some suggestions as how I avoid becoming burned out.

1. You have to set realistic goals and expectations: It’s important to set achievable goals and expectations for yourself. This helps you to avoid feeling overwhelmed or stressed out.

2. Take a breather! Allow yourself to take that 5-10mins break, to recharge, refocus, and avoid burnout. Take a walk, read a book, or engage in any activity that helps you relax. But, majority of the time I just light a candle and kick my feet up.

3. Self-care is essential to avoid burnout. I myself have a self care spa day twice per month and I vacation as often as I can Make sure you get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and engage in activities that bring you joy.

4. Don’t be afraid to reach out to friends, family, or colleagues for support when you need it. You can also consider talking to a therapist or counselor to help manage stress and prevent burnout.

5. Focus on the tasks that are most important and prioritize your time and energy accordingly. This helps you to avoid overcommitting yourself and feeling overwhelmed.

Remember, burnout can happen to anyone, and it’s important to take care of yourself to avoid it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My business represents all cultures. I love working with the community, seeing people smile, brings out their inner natural beauty from Women, Men, and Children. I enjoy creating beautiful styles, making people feel relaxed and comfortable with good energy.

I started my journey doing hair, when a very good friend of mines ask me to do her hair. I thought she was playing around I thought to myself, I don’t do hair. Then, one day I gave it a try and she loved it. She would call me and ask me to do her hair all the time. I started to enjoy it. It was a breath of fresh air, like meditation to my fingers. As months went by, I realized that this was it!! This was actually something that I loved to do. I started doing other people hair around the neighborhood. People would ask me “hey can you do my hair” or they’ll ask how much I charge for certain hairstyles. At that moment I knew it wasn’t just about money. It was about developing a new skill, improving confidence and self-esteem through the power of hair.

While doing hair, I was able to maintain my career in work my full-time and part-time jobs. I would do hair on the side. I did that for many years until I realized that in order for me to take my business seriously I would have to choose, between my career and side hustle. I had to make a decision fast and it was a very hard one to make. I had to trust my judgment in the universe and just step out on faith

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most impactful moments I learn on my journey.

The three qualities that are often as crucial for success are resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning.

1. Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and failures is essential for success. It’s important to have a positive mindset and to see challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. To develop resilience, you can practice mindfulness, engage in physical activity, seek out social support, and learn from your mistakes.

2. Adaptability: The world is constantly changing, and it’s important to be able to adapt to new situations and challenges. This means being open to new ideas, willing to learn new skills, and having the flexibility to adjust your plans as needed. To develop adaptability, you can try new things outside of your comfort zone, expose yourself to different perspectives and cultures, and embrace uncertainty and change as opportunities for growth.

3. Continuous learning: In today’s rapidly changing world, the ability to learn new things quickly and effectively is essential. This means being curious, seeking out new information and experiences, and developing a growth mindset. To develop your learning skills, you can read widely, listen to podcasts, attend workshops and conferences, and seek out feedback from others.

In summary, to succeed in your journey, focus on developing your resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning skills. Cultivate a positive mindset, embrace new challenges, and stay curious and open-minded. Remember that success is a journey, not a destination, and that the most important thing is to keep learning, growing, and evolving over time.
