We were lucky to catch up with Elijah Moon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Elijah, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Every day its me vs me. Always eager to find a way to improve myself with skills & mindset.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Moon Performance LLC is automotive performance shop in Arizona that focuses on Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution platform. We do simple maintenances like oil changes to turning a 280 horse power vehicle to a 900 horse power street driven race car. Customizing and maximizing the potential of Evos (Evolutions) to our customer’s request.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Passion, vision & will power of not giving up. In Korea, we don’t see too many performance vehicles or it’s not popular due to strict laws with emissions and noise restrictions. When I came to America, seeing all these high horse power vehicles roaming on the roads was the coolest thing ever. That is when I decided that I wanted to be part of automotive performance industry. I dreamed of owning my own performance shop one day since high school, always visioning & manifesting about it. I found a mentor and begged him to take me in asking for a chance to learn and work for him. I told him I’d work for an entire month full time for free and if he see’s that I have potential, he can hire me then. Failed countless times but I couldn’t give up, I had too much hungriness & pride to give up on my dream.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Phuong Nguyen: My mentor, my boss & the only person who gave me a chance to step into this automotive performance industry. He is the one who took me in, invested his time to teach / train me to be the person that I am today. Without him, there would be no Moon Performance LLC.
Geoff Raicer: Founder and CEO of Full Race Motorsports. 2nd person who hired me giving me a deeper introduction to access to various turbo chargers to study & install. Most of our highest horse power customers Evos are powered by Full Race Motorsport’s products.
Maurice Lewis: Started off as a customer and now a very close friend. 2nd in charge if I am away from the shop and he is also responsible for promotion & associating with our customers.
