Meet Elisabeth White

We recently connected with Elisabeth White and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisabeth, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I’m often asked how I found my purpose in life, and the truth is, my purpose wasn’t mapped out for me in any special way. Like many of us, I had to find it. But in a way, I think it also found me. My journey to discovering my purpose started at a young age, and it was the unlikeliest of places that set me on this path.

When I was 13, my parents went through a divorce, and it was a really low point in my life. My mom made me get a summer job, and it just so happened to be at a hair salon. I didn’t expect much from the job, but to my surprise, it gave me a place to escape and express myself. I found myself drawn to the art of hairdressing, and it quickly became my passion. Over the years, I worked hard to hone my craft, but it wasn’t until I started running my own salon that I realized my true calling. I found myself wanting to do more than just style hair, but to help other stylists grow and succeed. That’s when I started traveling to educate other stylists, and it was like everything clicked into place. My purpose, like me, has evolved over the years, but at its core, it’s always been about helping others. I truly believe that our true purpose aligns when we give ourselves over to the service of others.

For me, finding my purpose was a journey that took time, patience, and a willingness to follow my intuition. If there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way, it’s that our purpose is not always something we can plan for or anticipate. Sometimes it comes in the unlikeliest of places. But if we keep an open mind and listen to our inner voice, we can find our way. And when we do, it’s a beautiful thing. My hope is that my story inspires you to find your own purpose, and to trust that it’s out there waiting for you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The MADHAIRLAB is more than just a salon – it’s my passion project that has been in the making for over a decade. Its journey began at the Aveda Institute in Charlotte, NC, and I have been working tirelessly to turn my vision into a reality. And the result? A space that’s dedicated to making people feel beautiful, confident, and inspired.

The MADHAIRLAB has come a long way since its humble beginnings, but as the owner, I am not content with stopping there. With plans to open a larger space in the future, I’m looking to create more job opportunities and bring state-of-the-art training to stylists in my community. But the real magic happens in the chair, where clients can experience the best of the best in hair styling and a sense of creativity and innovation that is unmatched.

It’s not just about hair, either. The MADHAIRLAB offers photography and studio work, creating a space where clients can be their authentic selves and have their beauty captured in stunning images. And soon, I’ll be adding my own product line and extensions to the mix, elevating my services to a whole new level.

But it’s not just about what I do – it’s how I do it. The MADHAIRLAB is committed to quality, creativity, and innovation. I believe that hair styling is more than just about looks – it’s about helping people feel good about themselves. And that’s what makes the MADHAIRLAB truly special – I’m dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of my clients and the community as a whole.

With plans to expand into editorial work and share my expertise and passion with an even wider audience, the MADHAIRLAB is a force to be reckoned with in the world of hair styling. So whether you’re looking to get a new haircut or just want to be inspired by the creativity and innovation that’s happening in the world of beauty, the MADHAIRLAB is the place to be.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, there were three key qualities that were absolutely essential to my success: humility, a hunger for knowledge, and the willingness to learn from mistakes.

Humility is important because it allows you to stay grounded and open to new ideas and perspectives. No matter how successful you become, there is always more to learn and ways to improve. By remaining humble, you can stay open to growth and continually push yourself to be the best you can be.

The hunger for knowledge is what keeps the fire alive. There is always more to learn and explore in the field of hair styling, and by staying curious and seeking out new knowledge, you can stay on top of trends and offer the latest and greatest to your clients. Whether it’s attending workshops, watching tutorials, or experimenting with new techniques, the pursuit of knowledge is a never-ending journey.

Finally, the willingness to learn from mistakes is crucial. No one is perfect, and mistakes are bound to happen. But by embracing them as opportunities for growth and learning, you can turn setbacks into successes. It’s important to have a mentor or support system who can guide you through these moments and offer constructive feedback.

For those who are just starting out on their own journey, I would advise them to seek out a mentor who can offer guidance and support. Find someone who is willing to share their knowledge and experiences, and who will allow you to make mistakes and learn from them. It’s also important to prioritize education and to be open to new ideas and perspectives. By continually pushing yourself to learn and grow, you can become a true master of your craft.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
