We were lucky to catch up with Elizabeth Ann Powers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Elizabeth Ann with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Growing up, I watched my parents work extremely hard to become successful business owners. They taught me how to make a plan and how to put that plan into action. At eighteen years old, my very first job was in the hospitality industry. From there, I learned to be a promising employee by being on time, having a positive attitude, and being a team player. The harder I worked the more opportunity I was able to gain which lead me to seek out management and leadership roles. With a great work ethic, I was able to work smart and maintain reachable goals which ultimately lead up to my successes today.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Elizabeth Powers and I am the owner of EA Aesthetics, LLC. I specialize in facials, advanced treatments, waxing, lashes, and brows. My passion for the aesthetic world started from joining as an independent contractor with a company called LimeLife by Alcone. Within the company, I acted as a beauty guide to share top-quality professional makeup and all-natural skin care. Using social media as my platform, I was able to connect with family, friends, and even strangers on the products LimeLife had to offer. I was able to step out of my comfort zone and do live videos with ways to use the product and after a while, I developed a long-term passion for helping others feel good about themselves. Even more so when a family member or friend would message me saying my recommendations on a product helped hydrate their skin or the mascara they purchased was the best they ever had! It sparked something inside of me and that’s when I decided to enroll in beauty school. I attended The American Institute of Beauty where I graduated with 720 hours of hands-on clinical training in advanced skincare and treatments. Immediately after receiving my aesthetician license, I started my own business. I had just turned 30 years old and I was ready to create an amazing opportunity for myself. My ultimate goal each day is to help others love their skin by providing them with the information, tools, and treatments they need to feel healthier and more beautiful.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Before my journey in the aesthetic world, I spent the last 12 years working in the hospitality industry as a bartender where I developed great customer service skills, good time management, and situational awareness. Having excellent customer service skills as a bartender and an aesthetician, I can create a friendly and positive environment for my clients allowing them to feel right at ease and cared for well. It also helps with active listening and attention to detail. Great time management is a very underrated skill to have as a bartender. When each employee shows up on time for a shift, communicates with one another, and paces their workflow it provides a top-notch experience for all guests dining. As a business owner, I carry these quality time management skills over to my services to show my clients I am a professional. Lastly, situational awareness is by far one of the most important skills to accomplish. Monitoring a guest in a restaurant or a client in my chair, I can be attentive to the need of each person. Staying relaxed and learning to have a calm demeanor allows me to keep a focus on my task and be able to handle any issue that may surface.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Within the last year, my biggest area of growth is being consistent. Consistency leads to momentum and the more you do it the more it becomes a habit. In my business and my personal life, I put a lot of effort into being consistent, even on a tough day at work or just feeling lazy. Working on being consistent, especially over the last 12 months, I can get more things done in a day. By creating this habit of consistency, I can depend on myself and achieve more goals in the long run.
