Meet Elizabeth Dixon

We recently connected with Elizabeth Dixon and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose from my own healing journey. I have been on a search for peace for decades and developed tools that helped me build self-confidence and a passion for metaphysical healing. I wanted to harness those skills and present them to others who also need a little help on their own journey to self discovery. I knew I wanted to have my own business and wasn’t quite sure what that was until someone told me they didn’t think I had the resources to build a business but it turned out that the resources were inside me and the fire to succeed was strong. Nothing will ever be the same for me now. My purpose has gotten bigger than I could have ever expected.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I started my business, Altar Space as a crystal pop-up shop. I would travel all over and set up at artisan markets, festivals, farmers markets and really anywhere that said yes to what I was doing. It grew so fast that I could barely keep up. After being in business for 3 years, I opened a storefront in the heart of downtown New Braunfels, TX called The Empress. This off-shoot of Altar Space is a full-on metaphysical supply store where I carry items from many of the local makers and creatives that I’ve met along my path. We also carry books, tarot decks, jewelry candles and of course lots of crystals. We host divination readers at least once a week and our very own artisan markets a few times a year. The altarspacecrystals.com website is also starting to take off as we expand the collection online.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Self-Love – I had to believe in myself enough to keep the faith that I could do this- even when it’s tough. There have been many times that I thought it would be easier to give up and go get a “real job” especially when the pandemic hit and all of my scheduled events were cancelled. But that year actually made my business stronger as more people were opening up to alternative healing modalities.

Perserverance – I was absolutely determined to keep doing what I loved to do. I have always been a hard worker but when you have your own business, take that hard work and multiply it by 10. I would go months without a day off. I was afraid that if I stopped swimming that I would sink. But this last year has taught me that self-care is a big part of my business and I need to continue on my own healing journey in order to make the business grow.

Expertise – Crystals are the one thing in life that came naturally to me. I have been learning about them for over 30 years. There is so much more to learn and I’ll never get tired of it. Continuing to be open to being a student has really benefited me. I try not to compare myself to other crystal enthusiasts because we are all unique and all bring something different to the table.

My advice to others would be to listen to the signs all around you pointing you in the direction that is meant for you. Don’t listen to the inner critic because your higher self knows better. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and don’t listen to anyone who isn’t a dreamer. Entrepreneurs are dreamers who make their own dreams come true.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always open to collaborations. I have worked with so many other creative people to see where we can go together. We bring different skillsets to the pot and can brew up some really magical things. People can email me at [email protected] if they want to work on an idea together or even use my space to teach a workshop.
