Meet Elizabeth Jones

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elizabeth Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Elizabeth, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding your purpose may seem like a daunting task. Some people may even avoid this very concept to the day that they die. I don’t blame them. It can be overwhelming at times especially when you feel you are lacking direction.

I found myself there many times growing up and it wasn’t until my early 20s where I was truly forced to deal with this head on. I had grown up, graduated college, and the world seemed so much bigger all of a sudden. Maybe you are in that same boat right now. Almost all young adults go through this life phase. But even if you are 8 or 80 you can still find yourself feeling as though you lack purpose.

The good news is everyone has a purpose by just simply living. Of course we all have unique purposes, but there is a universal purpose you can always fall back on. For me, it comes through my faith. Knowing that God has created me and has a plan for my life is all the comfort I need to persevere. When nothing I am doing seems to have reason I know that I have a universal purpose to live and to love.

Even if you believe in a different God or define yourself as a complete non-believer, you still have a universal purpose. As a human alive today, the universe has given you another day to exist. Another day to live, to love yourself, to love others, to explore, to laugh… I think when you wholeheartedly believe this you’ll find your specific purpose has been staring you down all along.

As far as my specific purpose in life, I had to ask myself specific questions. What and who are most important to me? What is my dream lifestyle? What do I enjoy doing day to day? How can this help others? How can I serve others in an authentic way?

What do I want to be doing a year from now? 5 years? What about even 20 years from now?
I didn’t force myself to write out an entire life plan, but getting real with what you love, what you want, and what you need is the first step.

What are my strengths? Weaknesses? What do I want to improve? What kind of human do I want to be? Don’t write or think out the perfect interview answer. This is just for you so you can be as blunt and specific as you want. Ask yourself other questions that relate more to you or use the vast internet to find more questions to ask yourself about identifying your purpose.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If you a stubborn like me, you already have this quality inside you. Which is simply don’t quit. Persevere. Whatever it is you can get through it, figure it out, or overcome it, I promise. Figure out your plan of action and take action. You may need to get a little creative to finding your solutions or simply don’t take no for an answer. But I promise if there is a will there is a way.

Secondly, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to outsource areas that you don’t excel in. Spending time on tasks that do not align with your skills and talents will only lead to resentment and frustration. Instead find a helping hand who does have those talents or skills work alongside you. Now, budget is always a cause of concern and you may not have the funds to outsource to other people. This is where the first quality comes into play. Get a little creative. There are online systems already set up that can help assist. Automation tools, copyrighting tools, analytics tools, etc. Start researching how you can outsource tasks that don’t align with your best talents and skills.

My last quality recommendation to have on your journey is to learn how to enjoy it. Fall in love with the process. One day you will hit your biggest wildest goal. And that’s all it will be, one maybe two days of celebration. When you fall in love with the process to get there you’ll be able to find joy in every day. Your mindset is your most powerful tool, so I would always begin there.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book I’d recommend to anyone starting out or finding themselves stuck is “Everything is Figuroutable” by Marie Forleo. It is an amazon best-seller for very good reason. It has impacted me so much so I’ve already mentioned it in my previous answer. The book shares the concept that everything can be figured out, with facts and truths to back it up. Story after story you’ll begin to believe in this magic. You’ll be able to figure out what you truly want, how to address your fears, and step into what you’ve already defined as your purpose.

A big portion of the book also deals with how to eliminate each excuse you may think is valid but really isn’t. Plus so many drops of wisdom and actionable steps for you to begin taking. Even if you don’t want to own a business, the book can be applied to anyone’s life dreams. You’ll be shocked what you discover has been limiting your potential.
