We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elizabeth Baker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
For me, it was combining my innate social skills with a creative eye developed from years of working in the fashion world into my own photography and creative consulting business for brands. There’s nothing more rewarding than to have a dream job that allows you to consistently maintain innovation and make every client captured feel beautiful, while also inspiring future viewers to see exactly what you saw behind the lens on that particular day or night.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My business, Elizabeth Baker Photography, was launched back in February 2019. Since then, it’s been so fulfilling to travel around the world to help clients curate content for their social media channels and capture beautiful moments from a strategic brand and luxury event level. Each day brings a new challenge, and the excitement of new adventures, risks and opportunities keep my creativity behind the lens thriving.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Never be afraid to switch careers or get stagnant with learning something new – you never know how those skillsets will be intertwined in the future. My background in fashion helped me develop a creative eye behind the lens; my lifestyle blog showed me how to maintain a hardworking, yet always innovative mindset while working long hours from home; my Southern social skills have helped set me apart from other photographers to not only make new clients in a social setting, but to also make them feel comfortable and lively in front of the camera. All three of these previously learned skillsets are used on a daily basis to help maintain and grow my photography business.
How would you describe your ideal client?
The beauty of my job is that I’ve combined many types of photography into one business. My ideal clients are those who need me for various shoots: capturing content for their social media, headshots, movie premiere events to product/lifestyle photos for their websites or a magazine feature. Without my dedicated clients such as Gina Wade Creative and Dawn McCoy Media, there wouldn’t have been an opportunity for me to capture and learn the complex sides of social media, photography and the event worlds at such a rapid pace.
