Meet Elizabeth Sanchez

We were lucky to catch up with Elizabeth Sanchez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Elizabeth , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I am a first generation, Mexican American LMFT (Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist) based in Southern California. As the daughter of an immigrated family, I have always had a passion for helping others. Especially, those in ethnic and under served communities. In the early stages of childhood, I watched my parent pursue the “American Dream” through hard work, entrepreneurship, and perseverance. Through the highs and lows, they modeled purpose in their daily actions and encouraged me to dream, and so, I did.

That little girl inside of me grew up and pursued a path of higher education at University of La Verne where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy. During my educational experiences, I became fascinated with holistic approaches and somatic techniques that offer dynamic ways to serve the Mental Health community beyond talk therapy. As I explored various facets of wellness and therapeutic techniques, I came across EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is design to identify and heal triggers in those who have experienced PTSD, various forms of trauma, and emotional impact. The more I learned, the more I began to heal from the challenges I faced as a child with an ethnic background and committed myself to internships working with the BIPOC Community and under served areas of California.

After college, my dream became a clear vision. I married my husband and quickly adopted his philosophy on life: to do everything with “Calidad” which means quality in Spanish. He encouraged me to take a leap of faith and after years of serving our local communities, I began my own private practice in 2019. The mentors, colleagues, and clients I have worked with along the way have and continue to give me invaluable perspective.

Now, I have expanded my services in helping my colleagues through EMDR Consultations and Private Practice Consultations. I have also collaborated with a creative team to bring you “Cafecito y Calidad” – a highly caffeinated, quality Podcast featuring discussions with various experts and holistic specialists in the Mental Health field.

All of this has not just been years in the making, but years in dreaming and envisioning that can be traced back to the little girl that still lives in me. My hope is that I can continue to pursue education, advocate for systems of change, and add a little more “Calidad” into the lives of all who need it most.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hello, I’m Elizabeth Sanchez, the founder of Calidad Holistic Wellness and Therapy, and the proud host of Cafecito y Calidad Podcast, where we engage in quality conversations over coffee and highlight minority-owned coffee shops. Based in Whittier, CA, I wear many hats – a therapist offering virtual and in-person services to the community, an EMDR Approved consultant, a workshop facilitator, and a coffee enthusiast. On top of all this, I’m also the owner of a sweater line called “How Do You Take Your Cafecito?” – truly passionate about weaving connection and wellness into every aspect of life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In my entrepreneurial journey, three skills have proven to be the most impactful: resilience, perseverance, and the ability to lean on a supportive community. The challenges I’ve faced have required unwavering resilience, allowing me to bounce back from setbacks with newfound strength. Perseverance has been crucial in navigating the inevitable hurdles, pushing me to persistently pursue my goals. Additionally, having a community to lean on has been invaluable – whether for advice, encouragement, or shared experiences, it’s the cornerstone of my entrepreneurial resilience.

To those starting out, my advice is to embrace resilience, weather the storms with perseverance, and cultivate a supportive community. It’s important to remember that the journey may get tougher before it becomes easier, so don’t give up, stay consistent, and trust that each challenge is a step towards success.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Currently, a significant challenge I’m grappling with involves securing funding for my podcast. As I’m in the stage of personally financing the podcast, I’m actively engaged in the process of applying for grants, and I’m gearing up to explore potential sponsorships as well. Despite these financial hurdles, I’m fueled by a strong sense of motivation and belief that I will successfully secure the necessary funding for my podcast. Additionally, I’m excited to launch a workshop series as part of my strategy to better connect with my community and, in turn, generate support and funding for my ongoing projects. The workshop series not only aligns with my community engagement goals but also serves as a proactive step in overcoming the financial challenges I currently face.
