We were lucky to catch up with Emilio Alcorta recently and have shared our conversation below.
Emilio, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Everyone has their own things they go through and think about but only the strong can get out of that bubble and burst into the person they were meant to be. You never know what can happen at any given time and having those coping skills can definitely help you when running a business. One thing I learned heavily is to never apologize for taking some time off if you need, mental health can really break and destroy everything someone has worked so hard for, but having that mindset, that not matter what, everything in the end will work out in your favor. Just remember anything that might bring you down or get in the way of accomplishing your goals, it’s only a test to see whether or not your built to have such an empire or whatever it is your seeking. Prove that you’re more than capable of moving on and continuing to make them haters mad! Move in silence and always let your actions speak for themselves. It’s ok to cry or get upset for a short time but never for a long time, feed that energy into whatever your dream or accomplishments are and you’ll forever be unstoppable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Owning a business is not easy and can be very difficult if you don’t know and have some quality’s one must have to be successful. Being a hard worker and leader is one of many things a person can be to be successful. Having that drive in you to work, no matter how long or hard, to get what you want will definitely play a big aspect on your payoff down the road. You can go into whatever not knowing anything at all and still come out on top, as so I did. I didn’t know a lot about business but I challenged myself and kept my motivation and now I can just look back and help the next person do the same. Motivation is probably the biggest key factors in being successful in anything. Just remembering the bigger picture and the outcome that’s to come should make you keep going one hundred and ten percent. Don’t ever compare yourself to others as you are your biggest and strongest competition. If anyone tries to get in the way of your dreams always remember they can’t compete where they can’t compare.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
If there’s something I have to be really grateful and appreciative in my journey is definitely my mom. From the very beginning she was the one that gave me the idea to start a business and without her pushing me I don’t know where I would have been right now. My mom originally started making Mexican candies for us to sell in school but I never really took it serious, Until I saw it really going popular on TikTok. She told me many times to start but I would just brush it it away until I really gave in and told her to buy me a few things. And so she did and it’s history from there. From taking me to my pop up shops to bringing all my ingredients from Mexico, my mom plays a huge part in my business. She not only originally started it, but we travel once a month in car to Mexico to get everything El Chilito Loko needs. I’m so forever be grateful for my mom and hopefully one day El Chilito Loko will make all her dreams come true.
