Meet Emily Garcia

We recently connected with Emily Garcia and have shared our conversation below.

Emily, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
In my quest to discover my purpose, my journey has been marked by a series of challenging experiences. As a child, I faced trauma and abuse, and later, I unexpectedly went through a divorce that left me a single mom. The sudden loss of my beloved father added to the difficulties I encountered. Instead of succumbing to these challenges, I demonstrated resilience by actively seeking support and dedicating myself to enhancing my mental wellbeing. Through these situations, I not only weathered the storms but emerged stronger and more self-aware. The process of confronting and overcoming these challenges became a catalyst that changed me for the better. Rather than viewing adversity as a roadblock, I perceive it as an opportunity for reflection and personal growth via the lessons learned. This proactive approach allows me to extract meaning from my struggles and provides me with a profound sense of purpose.
Taking a step back to reflect on the lessons learned and the inner strength gained through adversities, I have been able to discern the deeper meaning of my experiences. The evolution and growth I experienced in the face of challenges became the foundation upon which I built a clear sense of purpose—a purpose that emerged organically from the resilience cultivated during life’s more demanding moments.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Emily Garcia, a mental health therapist, as well as the founder and owner of Tribe Mind Body Wellness, a counseling and wellness company. I am fortunate to lead an incredible team of therapists who support children, teens, adults, and couples in Lakewood, Arvada, and virtually. My passion lies in the work I do to help others, and I am always seeking ways to support people in my community to find belonging.

At Tribe Mind Body Wellness, we offer various avenues for support, including wellness retreats, workshops, groups, and a podcast titled “SoulStirred: Stories of Growth and the Human Experience.” You can find the podcast on your favorite podcast host or [here](https://feeds.transistor.fm/soulstirred-stories-of-growth-and-the-human-experience).

In response to shared sentiments from numerous women in both my personal and professional circles, expressing a perceived absence of personal and meaningful connections with fellow women, I took the initiative to establish a monthly gathering called “EmpowHer Women’s Gathering.” This gathering, open to women of all ages, serves as a dedicated space for fostering profound connections, sharing personal stories, celebrating individual triumphs, and finding meaningful and mutual support.

The EmpowHer Women’s Gathering meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and is only $25 to attend. More details can be found here: https://tribemindbody.com/events/#gather

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My journey has been notably shaped by three key attributes that underscore my qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge. Foremost among these is my adaptability—a quality that has allowed me to navigate diverse challenges with grace and resilience. My ability to seamlessly transition and adjust to varying circumstances has been a cornerstone of my success. This adaptability was initially developed when I was a teenager and was removed from my home by child welfare after disclosing sexual abuse by a stepfather. I had to learn to adapt to a new life with my sister as my kinship foster mother to be safe and protected.

Additionally, I possess a unique talent for considering multiple perspectives. This distinctive skill set has not only broadened my understanding of situations but has also fostered effective communication and collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds. My commitment to inclusivity and my capacity to appreciate different viewpoints have proven instrumental in my journey. As a therapist, I have had the privilege of working with people from a variety of different backgrounds and beliefs. I am able to hear their stories, consider their perspective, and also provide them with a new perspective.

Equally noteworthy is my propensity for pushing boundaries and stepping out of my comfort zone. This innate openness to challenging myself has been a catalyst for personal and professional growth. By embracing new experiences and confronting unfamiliar territories, I have consistently demonstrated a tenacity has shaped my life, contributing significantly to the richness of my journey. I am willing to step out of my comfort zone in a variety of ways, whether it’s rappelling down into a glacier in Iceland, jumping into a Cenote in Mexico, or continually expanding my business to meet the needs of the community. I choose to make choices based on light rather than fear.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I am a huge proponent of stillness, breathwork, meditation, and movement or exercise to combat overwhelm. When I notice that I am feeling overwhelmed by life, I stop to breathe. I slow down my breath by focusing on long and slow inhales and exhales. I also prioritize stillness, meditation, and movement. By meditating most days and engaging in challenging workouts at the gym five days a week, I am able to train my brain and create neural pathways that support my well-being. In addition, I have my support network that I can reach out to when I need to vent, gain insight, or even fall apart! My support network consists of my therapist, colleagues, friends, and family members. Finding just one person you can trust is vital to our wellbeing.
