Meet Emily Larson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emily Larson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Growing up, my dad had his own business that he ran completely by himself so you could say I got my drive to be independent and to be a business owner from him! I also joined the volunteer fire department in my hometown at 15 years old to be a cadet! Working with all of the firefighters, it was like having 20+ dads around who always made me do the hard work and pushed me to do better. They engraved ambition, drive, and hard work into me at a young age. I did volunteer firefighting in my hometown until I was 18 and then went off to college for firefighting also. Being part of the fire department taught me a lot of responsibility, integrity, resilience, courage, and to have confidence in myself in all areas of my life!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner of Revolution Refillery – San Antonio’s Zero Waste Refillery and Plastic Free Home Goods store! I love being able to offer sustainable options for the community – whether you are just starting your sustainability lifestyle or if you are an experienced refiller! Everyone is becoming more and more aware of how bad our plastic waste is getting as humans and that we need to do better. You can refill the same containers from your home so that you aren’t having to throw any away! All our refill options (shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, etc.) are all made with plant based ingredients and almost everything is also vegan – just make sure to ask. We have everything from kitchen goods to self care and bathroom products!

Our one year anniversary is coming up the weekend of April 20th and 21st so make sure to mark you calendar and stop by! There will be local vendors, free garden seeds, and giveaways all day long to celebrate our anniversary and Earth Day!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the most important quality & skill to have is adaptability! Things change on the daily! Learning to adapt to change and being able to find another way around an obstacle, no matter the size, is very important. I would also say having a strong ambition to get things done and going for what you want will get you places whether you are a business owner or just in your daily life. Having a vision for what you want, manifesting it, and speaking out loud about it like it is currently happening or will happen soon will also boost your drive for wanting it. I had a clear vision for what I wanted for the refillery, I spoke about it like I was already opening it, and it happened way sooner than I anticipated!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Everyone – anyone who is wanting to better their lifestyle in any aspect! Whether that’s someone who is passionate about reducing their plastic waste, someone who has a skin condition and breaks out from typical drug store hand soaps and needs better products, anyone who cares about the planet or animals! If you have a family history of cancer and want to avoid heavy metals and chemicals in drug store products – we have the plant based, cruelty free, vegan, etc. options. Anyone who wants to shop and not have to worry about where their products are coming from, if the employees are fairly paid, if the brands test on animals, if there’s heavy synthetic perfumes that irritate them – all the things!

Everyone can shop here worry free 🙂
