Meet Emily Poste

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emily Poste a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Emily, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
As someone who grew up being bullied relentlessly in school. It took me a long time to find myself and to build confidence in myself. I actually developed my self-esteem and confidence through building my business! As someone who specializes in women’s portraits, boudoir especially, I became such a hype woman for my clients. I love pouring into them. I try to speak as much positive reinforcement and support to them during their short time with me. I ALWAYS want to see them leave glowing, and feeling on top of the world. After years of doing this in my business, I came to the realization that I was not awarding myself the same courtesy. The internal dialogue that I had and the way I didn’t prioritize myself…didn’t align with what I was teaching and advocating for these women!? I began to ask myself why wasn’t I advocating for myself that way? Around 3 years ago… I decided to change all that. I began to really pour into myself for the first time, appreciate myself, love myself. And a lot of that came from looking at this amazing business I had built and the client’s lives I had touched. It was hard to look at myself as worthless like I once had. I really started to see the value in myself and have grown so much because of that.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Luxury Photographer, Stylist and Creative Director based out of Austin, Texas. As a photographer, I specialize in Women’s Portraits, Fashion and Boudoir. I love finding unique, artistic ways to photograph people that captures the true essence of the individual in front of me. I also love to create story telling imagery as well- designed for the viewer to evoke a feeling or emotion. I love creating Boudoir imagery that is from the female gaze, worthy of being hung on your wall like a work of art! BECAUSE YOU ARE A WORK OF ART!

I host Boudoir Events for women on a monthly basis at Luxury Airbnbs in the Austin, Area! This creates a unique experience for my clients because they are able to pick a space that really speaks to them and what they envision for themselves for their session, versus a regular studio space.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My knowledge of women and our journey with our bodies has been an integral part of my journey and building my business. It helps me assist women in overcoming their self doubt and insecurities. That is why so many of my clients go on to live more confident lives!

I have a natural knack for cinematic framing. This is often what sets my images apart! I really want my clients to leave with so much more than just a photo of themselves. It should be an image that is moving. And I feel like my framing and artistic eye can achieve that for them!

I am someone who goes above and beyond when it comes to my client’s experience. I want them to feel extremely empowered during their time with me but ALSO- I want to provide an experience like no one else. Which is why I always am proactive in ensuring my client’s get the ultimate, luxury experience.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am going through a period of exponential growth with my business. I am wanting to try new things, so I am open to hearing about any opportunity that you think I would be a good fit for! Especially anyone who is somehow involved with events, music or fashion would be a great collaboration with me! Anyone who has opportunities for networking as well!
