We recently connected with Emily Sloan and have shared our conversation below.
Emily , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I love this question. 🔥
This is the question for so many of us. I know it was something I struggled with for many years. I often doubted myself, second-guessed my decisions, and was exhausted from indecision and insecurities. It took time, but building my confidence came from knowing myself, liking myself, and ultimately, trusting myself.
Confidence is a BYPRODUCT of deep trust in yourself. So, you’re able to develop confidence and self-esteem by actively working to build trust in yourself. And you’ve got to incorporate the body.
This is now the work I do with people. I spent 13 years as a trauma therapist before transitioning full time into working with people to build Self-Trust. I created a framework for people to build trust in themselves. It incorporates everything I did in my long journey to have more confidence. It’s the guidance that I wish I would’ve had. And I hope it expedites the process for others.
The Self-Trust Model has 4 essential pillars. All are rooted in deep inner work.
1. Radical Honesty with Yourself
2. Keep Promises to Yourself
3. Regulate your Nervous System
4. Know Yourself, Deeply
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I create group containers for women to come together and do cool shit.
After spending 13 years as a therapist, I made the transition to offering the Self-Trust model in a variety of group containers full time.
Epic Self-Trust is an opportunity for women to come together on their journeys for more confidence and creating an epic life. They get to take their life from auto-pilot to an intentional life they’re excited about.
Adventure Club incorporates solo travel, retreats, hiking, magic, and tea ceremonies. We’re all in person together to focus on building Self-Trust and community. Members get a chance to connect deeply with themselves and other badass women.
It’s powerful to witness women transform from lost and disconnected to renewed, inspired, and confident!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’ve been able to pair it down to one. Self-Trust. It’s the foundation for everything else.
For anyone early in the journey, I’d recommend they start by identifying their starting point. It’s really important to find the ‘you are here’ sign on a map so you know which direction you want to head. By taking an honest look (without judgment) at where you’re at, you give yourself the gift of information grounded in reality – not anxiety or wishful thinking.
I’d also recommend people begin to pay attention to how they are caring for their bodies. I focus on five areas that contribute to a foundation of nervous system regulation: fuel for your body, movement, sunlight, sleep, and connection.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
I love working with women who are ready to go from a “fine” life to a life they are excited to get out of bed for. These women aren’t afraid of a little hard work, but they want to know the juice is going to be worth the squeeze. 🍊
📣Hint: It is! Living an intentional life, connected to intuition and purpose, is so worth everything it takes to get it!
The women I work with are usually succeeding in some areas of life but overwhelmed in another. They might be crushing it at their job, but struggling in their relationships. Or they might feel confident as a mom, but want to expand into more of who they are outside of that role.
They are committed to their personal growth and desire supportive community. They might be drawn to the structure of practical tools and strategies AND they’re open to a little magic.
