We recently connected with Emily White and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Emily with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic is from my parents. They instilled in our family that a job should be done all the way, the right way. They demonstrated this ethic from starting chores at a very young, through the school years, and beyond.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Emilina Farm Flowers is a small family-owned flower farm located in Conifer, Colorado. We grow home-grown seasonal blooms, not flown. Our family has a passion for flower farming and we are dedicated to providing the highest quality, seasonal blooms to our customers.
We are excited to be the only flower farmers in the Colorado foothills area. This means that our products come straight from our flower farm right to your table without any chemicals. The blooms are grown with care and love.
This season, we are excited to offer summer bouquets subscriptions (sold out for the season) as well as Friday flower pickups (dates TBD).
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three skills and qualities for this journey are the zeal for learning and growth, resilience, and honesty. Here on the farm, everyday, every change in season and the weather provides an opportunity for learning. Secondly, resilience and grit. Hail, heat, and Mother Nature provide many opportunities to try and try again. Thirdly, the quality of honesty is so important to communicate and gain trust with customers. This provides the backbone of the farmer to customer relationship.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden: Grow, Harvest, and Arrange Stunning Seasonal Blooms by Erin Benzakein and Julia Chai has been the most important role in my development. I stumbled across the book at my local library and I read it cover to cover in days. This book sparked my interest in growing cut flowers, gave me the resources and tools to begin, and it also remains a continuous companion to expand what I am growing and how I can successfully grow beautiful blooms.
