We recently connected with Erase-E and have shared our conversation below.
Erase-E, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by being inspired. Sometimes the smallest things can bring something great out of me. I can be exercising, reading, writing, in or outside, driving, taking photos, listening to music… and looking at life outside the normal box, can spark a creative flow.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a recording artist who has released my music independently for years. The fact I owned my music is something I feel proud about. I used to want to get signed to labels- majors and independent ones because I knew I had something special. Just needed a bigger push, meaning more capital to make the brand larger. But I’m still here doing my part and making away for myself and producer McLaren by focusing on the music and branding. I just released a new single entitled “ACTIVE” on my website erase-e.com.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say MC skills, passion and hip hop knowledge was the most impactful in my journey. I always wanted to heighten my lyrics, rhymes patterns and schemes. My flow changed all through out my career. I say my flow is like paintings but sometimes I color outside the lines. There’s no right or wrong in art. Having the passion for music keeps you creating. Every time I recorded music I couldn’t wait to record more. That fire in me is definitely what kept me going. And having hip hop knowledge early in my child hood enhanced my recordings. I grew up listening to whole albums, not just a song or two. So I was really into different artist stories and mindset. This allowed me to dig into me and become my own artist.
My advice I would give to upcoming artist and folks who are early in their journey is… Learn as much you can about the music business as well creating music. Read, listen, always take notes, patience and most of all don’t be afraid to be you. Be inspired but always aim to tell your story… Enjoy the journey.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes I’m always looking to collab with other talented artist, producers, visuals directors and photographers. I used to write down a list of artist I wanted to work with. Kinda still do but I like to stay open minded because some artist are not super known but have talent. I can possible do a record with a less known artist that can be as dope as anything else. Names are cool. I’ve done them but dope is dope! For a limited time I’ll do some free verses for dope artist ONLY outside my region. I’m also open to do collaboration projects.
