Meet Erika Lizette

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erika Lizette a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Erika, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I think traveling and nature have a huge impact on keeping my creativity alive. Visiting some place new opens so many different avenues and aspects, you don’t know what you’ll find and I never know what I plan to capture realistically. It puts me out of my comfort zone and challenges me to use my creative eye to capture different views.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Erika Lizette, I am a salvadoran-american photographer. And environmentalist. I like to use my photography to share the beautiful aspects of nature in hopes to inspire others to protect and advocate for it. I also enjoy hosting or joining local clean ups for my community to help make more of an impact for our environment.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the three qualities that have made an impact in my work is my artistic skills. I use to be an art major and I think the understanding of colors and composition is a huge factor in how I photograph things. A second would be, my knowledge of our environment, I have studied in geology and geography and it has helped me not only see but understand the subject I photograph in a different level, it adds an educational facor to my work. The last would be my creative eye, I feel like because of my history with art, I have a differnet perspective. My advice is to utilize skills you already have to help with your creative flow. I think using what you already know to create something with meaning makes the art feel more impactful.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, whether it’s a brand who needs product photography or anyone looking for portraits. I am always looking for folks with likeminded values, so for products and goods, I would prefer to work with brands that focus on sustainability, eco concious and fair-trade. Personally, for individuals, I would like folks who are outdoorsy and seek adventure but I am always open to editorial and fashion photography as well.
