Meet Erika of Caring for the Earth Dresses

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erika Of Caring for the Earth Dresses. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erika below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Erika with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic definitely comes from my parents. It was the way I was raised. Both of my parents worked hard to provide what they could for myself an my siblings. I barely recall my parents sitting down as there is always something to do after work such as making dinner, cleaning the house, doing the gardening, fixing the car etc. I watched and learned.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Caring for the Earth Dress Rentals is a dress and clothing rental company for special occasion dresses and more.

We have dresses for proms, weddings, pageants and fashion shows, for ages 2 through adults. Other items we have include accessories (most of which are made out of discarded fabrics), angel wings, historical type costumes, western wear and even a few sharp suits for young (age 10-12) boys!

Around once a month we hold a dress and clothing sale with killer deals!
Our boutique is open by appointment only, however we do advertise on our IG page about open events, model searches, fashion shows and closeouts.

We rotate stock frequently and if you are looking for something please feel free to ask. The likelihood is we will have something that may work for you. Our sales items are usually bargain prices and out rentals start as low as $5.

We recently shot our costume rentals – just in time for Halloween! Also, we shot our entire bridal collection ready for those who want to rent over buying for a more sustainable wedding!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the ability to plan, access risks and determination are the most valuable skills which enabled me to continue in my business journey. To those early other journey I would suggest asking other business owners questions, taking your time to asses your situation and options will help you plan more effectively, as well as surrounding yourself with a good support network.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We love working with other like minded people and supporting AZ! We would love to hear from those in movie, film, tv production as well as fashion show coordinators and those who organize popup shops and events.
