Meet Erin Page

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erin Page. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erin below.

Erin, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I attribute my resilience to a foundation of strength and independence instilled in me from a young age. Raised by a single mother in challenging circumstances, we faced tough times, but the values of education, culture, and continuous learning were non-negotiable. These early curiosities served as a driving force, propelling me beyond economic constraints and fostering an innate desire to aspire for more.

My journey includes navigating a divorce with a small child and starting over as an entrepreneur. During these challenging phases, it’s my unwavering wonder for the possibilities ahead that keeps me grounded and focused. I have always been driven to discover and learn as much as I can, and this curiosity serves as a beacon during difficult times. Despite the hurdles, I maintain a steadfast faith in the potential for growth and achievement. Whether in personal or professional challenges, I approach them with the belief that there is always more to explore and achieve, and that perspective has been a constant source of resilience in my life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am deeply passionate about my work, which revolves around two integral components. First and foremost, I serve as an advisor and representative for artists, guiding them through the complexities of establishing themselves as professionals in the art world. Having collaborated with numerous artists, I’ve come to realize that the practical insights I provide are often missing in traditional art education settings. This realization fueled my commitment to bridging this gap, culminating in the development of an artist business development workshop.

Scheduled for launch in January 2024 in collaboration with the nonprofit organization, Campana Studios, this workshop is designed as a comprehensive two-hour program. It aims to empower visual artists with the knowledge and skills needed to elevate their work and navigate the intricacies of the industry. The workshop is a testament to my dedication to nurturing artistic talent and providing invaluable information that artists may not typically receive in academic settings.

In addition to my advisory role, the second facet of my business involves the creation of curated art collections for private clients. This aspect of my work not only allows me to exercise my passion for art but also enables me to contribute to the development of meaningful and personalized art collections. It’s a rewarding journey that aligns with my belief in the transformative power of art.

Looking ahead, I am excited about the upcoming launch of the artist business development workshop and the potential it holds to empower a new generation of artists. I am also continually seeking opportunities to expand my reach and contribute to the enrichment of the art community, making art more accessible and fulfilling for both artists and art enthusiasts alike.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, I attribute much of my success to three key qualities: passion, curiosity, and tenacity.

The driving force behind everything I’ve accomplished has been my unwavering passion. It fuels my dedication and commitment to my work, especially during challenging times. My advice to those early in their journey is to identify what truly ignites their passion and build their endeavors around it. When you love what you do, the challenges become stepping stones rather than obstacles.

Curiosity has also been a guiding light, leading me to continuously seek knowledge and explore new horizons. It’s the foundation of my ability to adapt to evolving circumstances and stay ahead in a dynamic professional landscape. For those starting out, I encourage fostering a curious mindset—never stop asking questions, stay open to learning, and embrace the unknown. It’s in these uncharted territories that you often find the most growth.

Third, I believe the resilience to persevere in the face of setbacks is a quality that has seen me through both personal and professional challenges. Tenacity has been crucial in overcoming obstacles and turning them into opportunities for growth. To those at the beginning of their journey, my advice is to cultivate tenacity—understand that setbacks are a natural part of any journey, but it’s the ability to persist that distinguishes success.

And if I can add a fourth, goal-setting. Setting clear goals has been instrumental in my journey. Knowing where I want to go and understanding when it’s time to move on to the next step has provided a roadmap for progress. I recommend that individuals early in their journey take the time to define their goals, both short-term and long-term. This clarity not only provides direction but also serves as a benchmark for measuring success and progress.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am actively seeking opportunities to collaborate with individuals or organizations that share my passion for promoting and exposing art to a wider audience. Specifically, I am looking for collaborations that can contribute to expanding the art scene in San Diego and providing more visibility for artists.

One area where collaboration would be particularly impactful is in securing venues for art exhibitions. The real estate landscape is challenging, and the current art scene in San Diego could benefit from more dedicated art spaces. I believe that creating more opportunities for curated exhibitions can not only showcase the talent of local artists but also foster a stronger connection between the community and the art industry.

If you are reading this and share a similar vision for enhancing the art scene in San Diego, I would love to connect with you. Whether you have access to potential exhibition spaces, resources to support such initiatives, or ideas for collaborative projects, I am open to exploring partnerships that can contribute to the growth of the local art community.
