Meet Eva Kolb

We recently connected with Eva Kolb and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Eva , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I have gained resilience from many of my life experiences, probably from too young of an age. My parents are German immigrants, and growing up in a small town in Vermont, I always felt like an outsider. I learned to find strength in my independence, and resilience in that strength. While I am thankful for these traits, and aware that they got me through a lot, I think it is important to note that they were born of necessity. I hope we all experience the opportunity to be soft instead of resilient, to find and form safety that allows us to let go of resilience.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Time Capsule Design is a multifaceted online shop focusing on political and social statement art. Our top selling items are T shirts, but our tea towels set us apart from the crowd. Typically unassuming and demure, Time Capsule tea towels are bold, outspoken, and sometimes crass. Putting statements like these on what is normally a domestic afterthought absolutely captures attention and starts conversations. Our shop started on Etsy, but recently moved to Shopify due to Etsy reserves policies. www.timecapsuledesign.com
We have over 120k followers on TikTok and have millions of views on both TikTok and reels. Social links are available here https://linktr.ee/timecapsuledesign

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
– artistic skill and creative desire – my business is not just a business, but a creative outlet. My designs are like art therapy for me. I am very thankful that my brain works in this way and these ideas come to me as they do. I would advise to take art classes, try new things, view a variety of different art, and practice practice practice. – math/business sense – I worked as a restaurant manager before starting this business and learned a lot of skills like how to price items, inventory management, order management, point of sale systems, customer service, and so much more. I would totally advise taking a class online about business management if you don’t have a similar experience.
– marketing/social media – I’ve always been interested in marketing but never studied it. I took some online courses about marketing in 2020 that taught me strategies, skills, seo, and so much more. Combining that with my affinity for social media has allowed me to expand my audience in major ways.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Being open and honest.

My parents are German immigrants, and it was always important in our household that we knew about Germany’s history, and the dangers of history repeating itself. It is vital to point out injustice when we see it, and to act whenever possible. Neutrality only benefits the oppressors and I am glad my parents raised me to question authority.
