Meet Fanchon Jones

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Fanchon Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Fanchon, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my parents. They have both been knocked down, and counted out over the years. Watching them overcome adversity has been a great learning experience for my siblings and I.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
By day I’m an H.R Director for a major chain restaurant. In addition to basic Human Resources needs at work I also help, grow, and develop young adults. That are looking for work and life experiences. Many of these kids aren’t getting these skills at home anymore for a number of reasons: busy working parents, or absent parents. So I think to think of myself as the person who bridges the gap. They take the life skills and experiences with them to college, law school, and the next phrases of their lives even if they move on and find work in thier career field. I’m a trained chef and Baker so in my spare time I cook and make various desserts. I hope to one day have a mobile food and dessert truck. To fulfill my passion and create another stream of income for my children and I.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Many of the skills that I’ve learned over the years that were the most impactful weren’t acquired in college. Making connections and building relationships (net working)is very important skill that I’ve learned. Active listening to the experiences of others and finding ways to apply to my life. And finally but certainly not least being present and in the moment especially for my children. So many times when adversity hits people tend to go in auto piolet and begin to just exist while life happens around them. I try to remain engaged regardless of my hardships.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one option that I’m currently facing is securing a new home for my children and I. Doing so will allow me to clear a path and check off a long goal that I’ve had multiple setbacks on. Afterwards I’d like to acquire the mobile food truck and start working on my next goal of multiple streams of income, while contributing to my legacy, generational wealth because my children will be able to inherit a family business.
