Meet Farzad Golpayegani

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Farzad Golpayegani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a visual artist, musician, and art director. I have released several music albums and exhibited my traditional and digital media paintings internationally. My background is in graphic design, and my main source of income is art direction. I work in various design fields, including digital and print advertisement, packaging, web design, and video production. What sets me apart is that I work professionally in diverse fields, meaning none of my music or painting activities are considered hobbies. I may not dedicate a substantial amount of time to each activity regularly, but I consider myself a professional in all of them.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say that “consistency”, “effective time management”, and “staying focused” are the qualities that have helped me over the years. My advice would be to try to see everything in the bigger picture and not worry much about the minor obstacles in daily life. This approach helps in maintaining focus, reducing anxiety and stress, and as a result, making progress in what truly matters.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Engaging in physical activities, regular exercise, and taking short breaks from the challenges I face have proven to be effective for me in such situations. I have maintained my exercise routine, primarily consisting of running, since my teenage years, which helps me maintain balance and release negative thoughts. This is especially beneficial because most of my activities require prolonged periods of sitting without much movement.

Typically, when I encounter a creative block, I take a brief break and engage in a different activity to distract myself. This break can last anywhere from ten minutes to one or two days. Upon returning to the project, I find that I have a better understanding and am able to generate improved ideas.
