Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fazon Gray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fazon, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I got my resilience from watching my mother and father growing up. I was able to see that it’s ok to be independent and to be a team player at the same time. I saw them both lean on each other, laugh with each other, cry with each other, scream at each other and always come out resilient.
I’ve seen them pray my whole life and I have used prayer to deepen resilience. I’ve learned gratitude from my mom and I’ve learned how to be patient from my father.
I’ve seen my family survive off of love and faith, and that is exactly how I survive and where I get my resilience from.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I was born in Harlem, New York where modelling first discovered me. My outlook of the world has changed because of the last 10+ years in-front of the camera, I view the world as a photo-shoot. My first passion was Basketball, then came rap music. Hence the tattoo on my chest which represents athleticism, creativity, and the power to use my voice. Around it are the words “Live strong or die weak”. A motto I’ve used for most of my life. I’ve been strongly motivated by my mother, father, family, and all those I’ve connected with along my journey. I find peace and solitude not only in front of the camera, but while traveling, meditating/praying, staying dedicated to a life of fitness, and inspiring those around me. I’m truly grateful to be where I’m at & I look forward to continuing to motivate those who look up to me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Ability to connect with people: This has helped me develop a large and deep network in my industry that ranges from models, photographers, actors, stylists, producers from all around the world. This has been integral in my career growth with bringing more opportunities and creating a support system. My advice is to break out of your shell and force yourself to talk and listen to people. Go to networking events and talk to everyone you meet in the street like they have a potential job for you.
Stick-to-itiveness: The way I have always looked at the word stick-to-itiveness means sticking to things no matter what. It was a word my mom used a lot and no matter how many no’s you get, you need to keep going and stick to what you love and believe in.
My advice is to never quit on yourself no matter how many no’s. Always think you are going to get a yes the next time.
Being a dreamer: Anyone who is successful at what they do has started with a dream at some point. You can have multiple dreams, and for me my first dream wasn’t modelling but it has been one of the biggest and longest lasting dreams of my life. I look at life like a lucid dream that has happy moments and nightmares, but you can control the outcome no matter how bad the moments are.
To create dreams you have to believe in yourself and envision yourself at the finish line of your race.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
The kinds of brands and partners I am looking to collaborate with are mainly in the space of: Travel, Fashion, Fitness and the Luxury space. I want to work with more International brands, sustainable brands, and Black owned businesses. I also have a passion for supporting up and coming fashion brands. I am going to be doing more travel and content in 2024, so any hotels, airlines and international experiences I would love to hear more.
