We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Frank Albrecht. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Frank below.
Hi Frank, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
When I was around 16 years old and still undecided whether to become a full-time musician or not, I got in touch with Andres Mayo, an established, Latin Grammy-winning audio engineer to ask him for some advice. Out of the kindness of his heart, with nothing to gain at all, he invited me over to his studio, allowed me to hang around some of his sessions, gave my music constructive feedback, and even wrote a recommendation letter for my admission to Berklee. Without his help, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and so when nowadays younger musicians come to me for help or advice, I always strive to always to have the same mindset and disposition as he did with me earlier in my life.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1998, and started out as a mostly self-taught multi-instrumentalist from a very young age. After playing in several bands, I eventually discovered music production as well as film scoring, both of which I became very passionate about and honed by myself. I started my studies in The Berklee College of Music when I was 17 years old, and I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a dual major in Film Scoring and Professional Music only three and a half years later. After working for some time scoring ads for international TV as well as other audiovisual gigs, I eventually pivoted and focused almost entirely on music production. Nowadays, under the pseudonym 4NALOG, I’m based part-time in Argentina and part-time in the US; primarily working as a producer and engineer with a plethora of artists from various countries, as well as being a head producer in Feniko’s new team, as a head producer and composer for television at Audio Network, and even releasing my own music as an artist.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Professionalism, versatility, and music theory. These three can’t be stressed enough, and even for those who are skeptical of learning music theory, I can guarantee that having at least a basic yet solid foundation in that area, and especially ear training too, has help me more times than I can count in my music sessions.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always looking for artists to work with as a producer, as well as always being open to hearing from other beatmakers and producers who might want to send me their beats for me to retouch and pitch to my artist network.
