Meet Fredrianna Harris

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Fredrianna Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Fredrianna , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I don’t think I found my purpose . My purpose found me . It found me in my most vulnerable moments . It caught me off guard and took ahold of me in the most genuine way . My purpose was calling me . I won’t ever forget the day I knew I was suppose to be a writer . It was sophomore year in Morgan park high school . 2008 maybe 09 . I was walking to my locker and I saw this door that was open . In the classroom was a group of poets . They were trying out to be contestants in louder than a bomb . I walked in that room out of curiosity and became who I am today .

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Hip Hop . I am a writer . Everything that I write about I have been through or I probably will go through . I channel God through music . I learn lessons and I heal others with my music . The most exciting part about it is that you really don’t know where this will take you . You just kind of are here for the ride . The ups and downs being an artist in Chicago I believe will lead me to wealth and legacy . I’m working on so many things at once at this time . I would just tell anyone reading this to stay tuned and check out all the amazing things I’ve done . I truly believe I’ve already made history

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful skills and qualities I have developed on this journey have been in places where I was not looking . Your relationship with God . Your character as a person, and your ability to turn your struggle into your freedom will lead you to a fulfilled destiny . I would tell anyone trying to improve , to look within first . I would tell them to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and go for what it is that you know is yours because we all experience pain . The pain that comes with fulfilling your dreams are worth it .

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Their eyes were watching God changed my life . I’ve always felt like I was Janie . Someone special and beautiful trapped in the wrong hands . It was the story of my life . The happiness she felt when she experienced real love . The happiness she felt when she could just be her self . When people saw her staring at the sky , she said she was watching God . I’m in that era of my life . Where I am just witnessing the miracles of God.
