Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabriel Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gabriel, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my family belief and strength in God, I come from a long ancestry line of entrepreneurs, who had the ability to fight every obstacle and the ability to open doors so I’m able to be an entrepreneur myself and to be creative because of there sacrifices and hard work to push threw. It is just something in me. That says this is something that needs to be done. This is how you should do it. I’ve watched people in my family makes something out of nothing I have learned to be patient to be empathetic I am a God-fearing man I believe in treating others how you want to be treated and I believe in having these type of qualities that creates the resilience in the person.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Here is a little bit about myself. I was born in Chicago Illinois. I’m now a Atlanta native growing up in Chicago as a child, I witnessed a lot I’ve always wanted to do things, my way, or in a way that was always creative and out the box thinking. I found myself isolated majority of the time, because I didn’t want to do what other children wanted to do I’ve always felt like I had something to say so I start creating short stories and I kept a journal which lead me into writing poetry. And with being an 80s baby I grew up being fascinated with popular music I love imitating Michael Jackson, in his dancing sparked a fire that gave me so much meaning and desire to an entertainer being an entertainer, I am a family oriented man I believe in hard work and dedication I’m a fighter for human relation. And in certain situation, I feel like I have a voice for the voiceless I hold a very indestructible strength that allows me to get over, to get through ,an soar ahead. Growing up in Chicago you can’t help, but to either be a writer, a dancer, , a poet, theater, I am the second oldest of six children and in some instances I’ve always felt like I had more of the responsibility than my brothers and sisters I got my worth ethic from my father and other various family members I was an honor roll student, I performed at every assembly from third grade to high school. I was in numerous dance teams and in doing, so that’s when I started writing my own music I moved from Decatur Illinois to Atlanta, Georgia which was one of the best decisions of my life it has given me the creativity that my soul has been yearning for and now I’m ready to share it with the world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My main three qualities to develop is dependability, honesty, and humor we live in a world today where people find pleasure having people do there work for them and most are not being held accountable to there words and the lack of dependability shows everyday. People are not being honest about how they really feel, they’re not being honest about the type of job they are working, they are not being honest about the relationships or marriage that they are in and it shows in all aspects of life and we see these type of things play out in the news on social media, and our government, and in our household honesty goes along way. I’ve always had a sense of humor I’ve always said that humor is a healer of any type of pain, laughter is a universal language no matter what you’re going through no matter where you are at no matter where you may go ,to laugh radiates everyone ,it makes you feel good, It brings on positive vibes and being humorous shows the side of vulnerability. You don’t have to take everything so serious. I am a very dependable person. I am honest, and I have a sense of humor.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
There are a number of people that I would love to collaborate with. I would definitely love a collaboration with Janet Jackson. We’re talking about pop royalty here we’re talking about the first family of music. I’ve learned so much just by looking at her career, her brothers career and many others that came after them. I also would like to collaborate with rap artist Sevndeep and Donvinnie Boykin it’s so many people I would like to collaborate with, and those are just a few I like to work with people that are out the box thinkers people that have a story to tell people that have dug within themselves to give us a story, and those stories are life stories that turns into masterpieces with dance ,with music or visualization through poetry. we we live in a world where there are no more gate keepers and we can be creatively expressive as we want and I believe collaborating with some of the people that I named I believe that it would bring something very extraordinary that the world has never seen, especially how my mind operates in these collaborations, it would be all about taking that type of energy and taking it to the next level of creation so the collaboration would have to be organic and original.
