We recently connected with Genia Moses-Buck and have shared our conversation below.
Genia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my Father and Mother. They gave me balance with my mother being a Christian and my father being a self-made Man. I learned from them both to keep going no matter the circumstances. My father didn’t have the privilege to be in regular class due to his mother. He had to be in the special education class to protect his two disabled brothers until they graduated. My father took his talent in craftsmanship to the construction industry for over 40 years. My mother was a scholar and took her talents to the school system as a teacher. I learned to take my skills to business and having a career. I completed my masters in Business Administration.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the Black Owned Western Boot Store that strive to give the best customer service experience possible. I want people to know any possible if you do the research and hard work. This industry has taught me a lot. I took my past business experience and kept applying new ways to grow. TikTok made an impact on my business with the exposure and encouragement. I learned there was a lane for my business and marketing creativity. I am in the process of getting a new location since the last one is no longer available.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three skills are excellent customer service, hard work, and determination. I advise anyone as an Entrepreneur to do your research first. Figure out your finances if you can’t get a loan. Start with pre-orders if you can’t afford inventory. I recommend starting small and work yourself up. Never argue with customers online and be patient. Treat customers as if you are the customers !
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed the first thing I do is pray 🙏🏽. I learned to trust in God and myself more being an Entrepreneur. I go back to drawing board with strategies to improve my business. I learned to go back and look at marketing videos that had a lot of engagement. Then recreate something similar or better to help the problem. I can’t stress enough trial and error will make you grow. Don’t be scared to throw ideas out and see where it takes you!
